Help us build the next generation of Grey Nomads Jobs
Grey Nomads Jobs is an established Australian employment and community platform serving the Grey Nomad market.
We are embarking on a significant redevelopment of our technology platform and are looking for a Graduate or Junior Full-Stack Web Developer who would like the opportunity to help build something substantial from the ground up.
This is not simply a website maintenance role.
Our existing platform is WordPress-based, but our future system is expected to move towards a more purpose-built web application capable of supporting employment matching, member and employer profiles, automated notifications, payments, travel planning, data management and future AI-based services.
You will work under the guidance of an experienced IT developer/technical adviser who will provide technical direction, architecture guidance and supervision.
We are particularly interested in someone at the beginning of their IT career who has strong fundamentals, enjoys solving problems and wants the opportunity to develop their skills while working on a genuine commercial project.
What you'll be helping us build
The new Grey Nomads Jobs platform is expected to include:
Job advertising and job-search functionality
Individual member profiles and employer/business accounts
Skills, qualifications and employment-preference profiles
Intelligent matching between workers and employment opportunities
Email, SMS and other automated alerts and notifications
Member travel plans and location/date-based matching
Membership and subscription systems
Online payment integration
CRM and email-marketing integration
Secure databases and administration systems
External API integrations
AI-assisted search, matching and member services

Future conversational and voice-based functionality
Reporting, analytics and business-management tools
Mobile-friendly web application functionality
Skills we're looking for
You don't need to be an expert in everything listed below.
We are looking for good technical foundations and someone capable of learning quickly.
Ideally, you will have recently completed, or be close to completing, a qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Web Development or a related discipline.
Useful skills or experience include:
JavaScript and/or TypeScript
Modern front-end development such as React, Next.js or similar
Back-end application development
PHP, Node.js, Python or similar server-side technologies
HTML and CSS
SQL and relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL
REST APIs and third-party system integrations
Git/GitHub and version control
Authentication, user accounts and permissions
Basic understanding of cloud hosting and deployment
Website and application security fundamentals
Responsive/mobile-first development
Testing, debugging and documentation
An interest in AI, automation and large-language-model/API integration
Experience with WordPress would be useful because our existing system uses WordPress, but this is not primarily a WordPress development position.
We are more interested in finding someone who can help us build the right long-term platform.
Who would suit this role?

This could be an excellent prospect for a recent graduate or junior developer with approximately 0–2 years of commercial experience who wants more responsibility than they might receive in a large graduate program.
You should be:
Curious and willing to learn
Comfortable working independently from home
Able to follow technical specifications and ask questions when necessary
A logical problem solver
Reliable and organised
Comfortable having your work reviewed by a senior developer
Interested in using AI tools to improve development productivity
Interested in becoming involved in a project over the longer term rather than simply completing isolated programming tasks
We don't expect you to know everything on day one.
We do expect you to be willing to learn.
The role
Approximately 3 days per week, with flexibility around working days and hours.
Location: Remote – work from home anywhere in Australia.
The successful applicant will work closely with the owners of Grey Nomads Jobs and under the technical supervision of our experienced developer.
There is potential for the position to grow as the Grey Nomads Jobs platform develops.
Remuneration
Competitive graduate/junior remuneration, negotiated according to qualifications, skills and experience.
Interested?
Please send us a short introduction telling us about yourself, your IT/software qualifications and why this project interests you.
Please also include your CV and, importantly, examples of things you have actually built.
These can be university projects, personal projects, websites, applications, GitHub projects or commercial work.
We are much more interested in seeing what you can do and how you think than receiving a long list of qualifications.
