We are supporting a major energy infrastructure contractor with the appointment of two experienced HSE Managers across long-term gas infrastructure projects in Queensland's Surat Basin.
n
Reporting directly to the Project Manager, you will lead the project HSE function and provide visible, practical leadership across a large, multidisciplinary workforce. You will need the confidence to influence senior project stakeholders, challenge where necessary and ensure that safety systems translate into consistent standards on site.
n
This is a genuine HSE leadership position requiring substantial experience within oil and gas, mining or heavy infrastructure construction.
n
The role
n
You will take responsibility for the development, implementation and continual improvement of project-specific HSE systems, procedures and initiatives.
n
Key responsibilities will include:
n
n
Leading and developing a multidisciplinary site-based HSE team
n
Providing expert HSE advice to project leadership, supervisors and the wider workforce
n
Driving compliance with project, client, legislative and regulatory requirements
n
Conducting assurance activities, audits, inspections and investigations
n
Promoting visible safety leadership through training, toolbox talks and workforce engagement
n
Monitoring contractor and subcontractor HSE performance
n
Identifying emerging risks and ensuring appropriate controls are implemented
n
Supporting environmental compliance across construction activities
n
Maintaining disciplined onboarding and mobilisation practices
n
Managing internal KPIs, client reporting and regulatory notifications
n
Building a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and proactive risk management
n
n
About you
n
You will be an established HSE leader who understands the realities of delivering complex construction work in a high-risk, operational environment.
n
To be considered, you will bring:
n
n
A minimum of 7–10 years' experience in HSE leadership roles
n
Experience within oil and gas, mining, pipelines or heavy infrastructure projects
n
Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary HSE teams
n
Strong knowledge of Queensland HSE legislation and regulatory requirements
n
Relevant tertiary qualifications in Work Health and Safety, Environmental Management or a related discipline
n
Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder-management skills
n
The confidence to engage effectively with project leadership, clients, contractors and frontline teams
n
A practical, visible and cooperative approach to safety leadership
n
ICAM or equivalent incident-investigation training will be highly regarded
n
n
This role will not suit someone looking to make their first move from HSE Advisor into management. You must be able to demonstrate credible leadership of both people and project-level HSE performance.
