Leading Hand Carpenter
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Leading Hand Carpenter to join our team.
This is a hands-on role suited to a qualified carpenter who is confident running a small crew, taking ownership of day-to-day site activities and working closely with our Project Managers to deliver projects safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
You will remain actively involved in carpentry and construction works while also providing leadership and direction to a small team of approximately 1–4 tradesmen and labourers.
About the Role
As Leading Hand Carpenter, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day running of your allocated jobs and ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently and to the required standard.
Your responsibilities will include:
Leading and directing a small crew of tradesmen and labourers
Working on the tools and completing carpentry works to a high standard
Managing the day-to-day requirements of smaller projects and work sites
Planning and coordinating upcoming works with the Project Manager
Allocating tasks and providing clear direction to other employees onsite
Reading and interpreting plans, specifications and scopes of work
Identifying required materials and placing material orders in advance
Monitoring workmanship, progress and site productivity
Identifying problems onsite and providing practical solutions
Making appropriate day-to-day site decisions without requiring constant supervision
Ensuring tools, equipment and materials required for upcoming works are organised
Completing site documentation including pre-starts, safety documentation and other project records
Communicating progress, issues and upcoming requirements to the Project Manager
Maintaining a safe, organised and professional work site
About You
To be successful in this role,
you will need to be a qualified and experienced carpenter who is confident both on the tools and leading others.
We are looking for someone who:
Is fully qualified and highly competent across general carpentry works
Takes pride in producing high-quality workmanship
Has previous experience as a Leading Hand, Supervisor or experienced Carpenter ready to step into a leadership role
Can confidently manage and direct a small team
Can manage their own jobs and take responsibility for getting works completed
Has strong problem-solving skills and can make practical decisions onsite
Can identify material requirements and organise orders in advance
Communicates effectively with Project Managers, employees, subcontractors and clients
Is reliable, accountable and takes ownership of their work
Has a strong understanding of site safety requirements
Is comfortable using technology as part of their day-to-day role
Essential Requirements
Trade qualification in Carpentry
Current driver's licence
Construction White Card
Strong knowledge of construction and carpentry practices
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings
Demonstrated ability to work independently and lead others
Good communication and organisational skills
Ability to use an iPad and electronic project documentation
