About Nyangatjatjara College
Nyangatjatjara College is a community-owned, independent school established in ****, providing primary and secondary education for Anangu students across the remote communities of Mutitjulu, Imanpa and Kaltukatjara (Docker River) in the south-west of the Northern Territory.
The College's footprint spans more than 400km and takes in the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, Angas Downs Station and the Katiti Petermann Land Trust.
Every student at the College is Anangu, and almost all speak Pitjantjatjara, Yankunytjatjara or another Central or Western Desert language as their first language.
Our College is wholly owned by Nyangatjatjara Aboriginal Corporation, a member-based corporation governed by a Board made up of two Directors elected from each of the three communities, an Independent Director for Education and an Independent Director for Finance.Guided by a both-ways (2-Way) approach to learning, the College connects Anangu knowledge, language and culture with the Australian Curriculum.

About the Role
Reporting to the Board, the Principal and Chief Executive Officer leads both the College and the Corporation - a rare dual role combining educational leadership with the management and administration of Nyangatjatjara Aboriginal Corporation.
In this role you will:
Provide strategic and educational leadership across early years, primary and secondary settings on multiple remote campuses;
Build and support a committed team of local (Anangu)



and non-local staff, with a strong focus on community engagement (tjungu);
Foster reciprocal, respectful relationships with students, families, staff and the Board (ngapartji ngapartji);
Develop a culturally responsive curriculum and pedagogy, including first-language resources and capability (pulkara nintiringanyi);
Work with the Board and members to shape an aspirational and achievable long-term vision and direction for the College (kulintja munu palyantja wiru);
Represent the College with government, funding bodies and the region's Aboriginal corporations and organisations;
Ensure sound governance, compliance and financial management across the corporation;
In your first ***** months, you will:
Build a reliable, well-supported team across all campuses - navigating the complexities of onsite living and working in a very remote environment, and building trust and cohesion within a close-knit team in a genuinely unique setting;
Progress a robust, culturally responsive curriculum and pedagogical approach, including development of first-language resources;
Confront the practical realities of remote education,



working closely with families and community to strengthen students' consistent engagement with school life;
Strengthen relationships and trust with the Board, members and the three communities;
Work with the Board to establish a clear, aspirational and achievable vision and long-term direction for the College.
About You
We are looking for an experienced remote-education leader who brings cultural humility, resilience and a genuine commitment to Anangu self-determination.
You will also have:
Minimum three years' experience as a Principal in either independent remote Aboriginal schools or you will have worked in rural/remote environments;
Experience across early years, primary and secondary schooling contexts;
Demonstrated success working with a school board or governing council;
Current registration as a teacher in the Northern Territory (or eligibility to obtain registration) and a current Ochre Card;
A strong understanding of remote Aboriginal education and a willingness to learn Anangu community contexts and values;
Experience with the independent school sector and/or Aboriginal corporations is highly regarded, though not essential.
