The Financial Services team is responsible for providing financial accounting, systems, operations, governance, budget coordination and management accounting to our clients in the delivery of their accountabilities. The role of the team is to ensure the department has a sound financial management framework that achieves compliance with statutory and accountability requirements and other financial standards together with the provision of budget and management accounting services.

Reporting to the Manager, Internal Budget, the Principal Management Accountant will support the financial and budgetary management process for the department. This includes the provision of budget development, monitoring and reporting services, contribution to the development of financial management improvement strategies, financial forecasting and modelling and cost benefit analysis.

As the Principal Management Accountant, you will specifically:

• Assist in the preparation of budgets, undertake budget monitoring and variance analysis including end of year forecasting and assist in the preparation of strategic and mid-year review submissions.
• Report on budget management and financial performance, analyse trends and recommend strategies to improve financial outcomes.
• Provide high level advice and financial analysis to the Manager,



departmental organisational units and other stakeholders on complex and diverse financial management issues.
• Undertake financial forecasting and modelling for controlled and administered operating budgets, including provisional funding allocations, scenario analysis, and associated financial impacts.
• Lead and manage the production of accurate and timely periodic financial management reporting including cost centre and budget variance analysis.
• Consult, liaise and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders ensuring accuracy and consistency of financial management information including cost allocation and financial performance measures.
• Coordinate, contribute to and prepare complex reports, submissions, briefing notes and correspondence on a range of financial management and budgeting issues.
• Participate in the continuous improvement review of work practices, information systems and processes to enhance the financial management function.
• Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
