About the role

As a Disability Support Worker with Empowering Care, you will provide high-quality care and support to participants across a range of environments, including their homes, the community and residential settings. Your role will involve assisting participants with personal care, daily living activities, mobility and communication, while encouraging choice, independence and community participation. You will work closely with participants to understand and support their individual goals, preferences and needs. You may also assist participants to follow established therapy and support plans, ensuring all services are delivered in a protected, respectful and person-centred manner.

Key responsibilities

- Assist participants with daily tasks such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and eating, ensuring dignity and respect in all aspects of personal care
- Support participants with movement and positioning, including transfers using hoists or mobility aids, and help participants engage in physical activities, ensuring safety and comfort
- Administer medications as prescribed, ensuring adherence to medication schedules and maintaining accurate records
- Assist with basic health tasks, such as changing dressings, supporting rehabilitation exercises, or following therapy plans
- Aid participants with communication needs, including using communication devices or alternative methods of communication, and facilitate social interaction
- Follow therapy or behavioural intervention plans, especially for participants with dementia, intellectual disabilities, or behavioural challenges
- Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team, including case managers, therapists, and other support workers, to ensure coordinated and holistic care
- Implement behaviour support plans, strategies, and interventions designed to promote positive behaviour and reduce challenging behaviours
- Observe and report any changes in participants' physical or mental conditions to relevant supervisors,



and record care activities, incidents, and progress accurately in participant notes
- Offer emotional support, active listening, and companionship to individuals, fostering positive relationships and promoting mental well-being
- Support participants in achieving personal goals and enhancing their quality of life, and support individuals in participating and engaging with their local communities
- Provide domestic support and household tasks, assistance or preparation of meals, support with assistive technology, and support to appointments and grocery shopping

About you

- Certificate III or higher qualification in Individual Support (Disability) or another relevant equivalent qualification, or 1 year of relevant full-time experience in lieu
- At least one year of relevant experience in disability support, personal care, or a related field
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with individuals, their families, and the wider support network
- Empathy, patience, and a genuine commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities
- Ability to follow instructions, adapt to changing circumstances, and make sound judgments in challenging situations
- Basic understanding of behaviour management strategies, first aid, and medication administration
- Knowledge of disability rights, legislation, and person-centered approaches
