SRJ Walker Wayland is the leading accounting firm on the northside of Brisbane. Across our Brendale, Sunshine Coast and Brisbane CBD offices, our team of over 85 provides a range of services including business advisory, audit, outsourced CFO and finance team support, plus a range of specialist advisory services.

What is an undergraduate cadetship and who is eligible?

A cadetship offers students the opportunity to undertake a Commerce or Business degree while gaining valuable work experience in the accounting industry.

SRJ Walker Wayland’s Cadetship program is ideal for first year university students who have the legal right to work in Australia. The cadetship program is structured as a combination of part-time work and part-time study.

This position provides hands-on experience to various areas of public practice accounting. This includes financial statement preparation, tax compliance, and advisory support.

The cadetship program has been running for the past decade, allowing cadets to balance their studies with part-time employment. SRJ Walker Wayland has a proud history of developing cadets into strong leaders, with many cadets now acting in senior roles within the firm.

Once settled into the program, cadets will work four days / 30 hours per week as part time employees. Based on candidate requirements, work hours and days can be negotiated.

Attributes of successful applicants





- Enrolled in an undergraduate accounting degree at a recognised Queensland university

- Demonstrates or is developing strong communication and interpersonal skills

- Is honest, reliable, and dedicated to both work and study

- Is organised and enthusiastic

- Maintains a consistent academic record and strives for strong academic performance

- Has the ability to work both independently and with a team

What support do we provide?

To assist in your career development, SRJ Walker Wayland provides the following support for our cadets:

- Comprehensive induction and training program upon commencement.

- Peer assistance with training, mentoring and cadet support.

- Mentoring and support from Senior Accountants, Managers and Partners.

- In-house technical and soft skills training.

- Paid study leave (one day study leave per subject per semester including day of exam), with a maximum of four days study leave per calendar year.

- Monthly study allowance for the duration of the cadetship (i.e. until graduated from university).

- Monthly technology allowance.

- Clothing allowance

- Flexibility to adjust workdays when required to facilitate attendance at university lectures and tutorials.
