About the Role
We are seeking a Raw Meat Procurement Specialist to join our Melbourne-based team at Laverton. Reporting to the Head of Value Added, this role is responsible for managing the supply of raw materials from both internal operations (boning room and processing plant) and external suppliers, ensuring product specifications are met while optimising cost and supply performance.
You will work closely with cross-functional stakeholders, including Operations, Quality, Finance, and New Product Development (NPD), to support efficient procurement processes, drive continuous improvement, and identify opportunities for innovation.
Your key responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
- Manage raw meat procurement across internal and external supply channels, ensuring consistent availability, specification compliance, cost efficiency, and alignment with manufacturing requirements.
- Develop and execute sourcing and supplier strategies, including contract negotiations, commodity market monitoring, risk management, and optimisation of total cost of ownership (TCO).
- Drive supplier and internal performance improvement by analysing yields, quality, and processing efficiency, using data-driven insights to improve outcomes and reduce material costs.
- Provide procurement forecasting and reporting, delivering accurate short and long-term supply forecasts to support production planning, budgeting, and capacity management.
- Partner with Recent Product Development (NPD) and Quality teams to define cost-effective raw material specifications, support product innovation initiatives, and ensure supplier compliance with quality and food safety standards.
About You
The successful candidate will bring:
- A Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Commerce, Agribusiness, Food Science, or a related discipline. Professional procurement qualifications (e.g. CIPS) will be highly regarded.
- 5+ years' experience in procurement, sourcing, or sales within the meat, seafood, food manufacturing, or agribusiness sectors.
- Strong understanding of raw meat specifications, yields, grading systems, and quality requirements.
- Demonstrated analytical capability, including cost modelling, supply and demand planning, forecasting, and scenario analysis.
- Proven ability to identify cost-saving opportunities and drive commercial outcomes through data-driven decision-making.
- Excellent project management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence and present complex information to both internal and external stakeholders.
- A collaborative approach, continuous improvement mindset, and proactive problem-solving capability.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including data analysis and reporting.
Desirable
- Working knowledge of food industry compliance frameworks, including HACCP, GMP, traceability requirements, and regulatory labelling standards.
- Experience working within integrated protein, food manufacturing, or agricultural supply chain environments.
If you're looking for an opportunity to play a key role in a leading food manufacturing business and influence sourcing strategy, cost optimisation, and product innovation, we'd love to hear from you.
