Drafting Engineer – Design & Engineer (Truck Body & Trailer)

The opportunity

We’re looking for a hands-on Drafting Engineer to take ownership of design from concept to handover. You’ll produce robust, build-ready models and drawings, BoM's, Job Cards and collaborate with production, and ensure every design meets Australian standards and customer specifications.

What you’ll do

- Design truck bodies and trailers (e.g. curtain siders, rigid bodies, semi trailers, probonds and custom builds) using 3D parametric CAD.

- Create detailed 2D drawings, weld symbols, GD&T;, BOMs and manufacturing job cards.

- Engineer subframes, mountings, load restraints, hydraulics layouts and fit-out details.

- Check designs for compliance with Australian Design Rules (ADRs), VSB6, and relevant AS/NZS standards.

- Work closely with production to resolve issues, improve manufacturability, and reduce rework.

- Manage engineering changes (ECR/ECO) and maintain CAD/PDM data integrity.

- Support customer/job reviews, site measurements and occasional supplier liaison.

- Contribute to continuous improvement,



jigs/fixtures, and standardisation of designs.

Skills & experience

Must have

- Proven experience in truck body and/or trailer manufacturing (Highly regarded).

- Proficiency with 3D SolidWorks (preferred) a, plus AutoCAD 2D/3D.

- Strong 3D parametric modelling and drafting fundamentals, clear, shop-ready drawings.

- Working knowledge of Australian Design Standards and heavy vehicle compliance (ADRs, VSB6, Load Restraint Calculations, PBS).

- Practical manufacturing awareness (steel/aluminium fabrication, welding, tolerances, DFM).

- Excellent communication, attention to detail, and ownership from concept to delivery.

Nice to have

- VASS experience (Vehicle Assessment Signatory Scheme) or eligibility/interest to work toward signatory status.

- FEA sanity checks, materials selection, and fatigue considerations.

- Experience with hydraulic/pneumatic circuits, load restraint, and PBS exposure.

- Familiarity with ISO 9001 environments and PDM/document control.
