CBC Fremantle is a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice tradition for boys in Years 7-12. Founded by the Christian Brothers in 1901, the College has served the local Fremantle community for over a century helping families to develop boys who continually strive for excellence and who exhibit Catholic Leadership in their quest to establish a more just and peaceful society.

The College seeks to assist in the spiritual, academic, cultural, physical and emotional development of boys while acknowledging the primary role of the family as educator. As such, the College encourages its students to rigorously pursue excellence in all dimensions of their lives and to become leaders within their community through the active expression of their faith.

About the role

The Head of Learning Area - Mathematics has special responsibility for providing effective leadership, management and oversight of the College’s Mathematics programs, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all year levels. The ability to teach Mathematics Specialist and/or Mathematics Methods would be highly desirable. The successful applicant is responsible to the Principal through the Deputy Principal – Teaching & Learning and works collaboratively with other key staff to support the strategic priorities of the College.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will:

- Be prepared to work closely with the Principal and staff to ensure that CBC Fremantle authentically reflects the mission of a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice Tradition.

- Undertake ongoing formation with Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) as required by the College.

- Be an active and contributing member of the College Academic Board.

- Provide clear and competent leadership for all teachers of Mathematics at the College.

- Ensure that all Mathematics teachers plan and deliver effective learning programs, in line with SCSA requirements and best practice for boys’ education.





- Ensure that all requirements and deadlines pertaining to assessment and reporting are met by members of the Mathematics Learning Area.

- Provide particular support and assistance to recent and beginning teachers in the Mathematics Learning Area at the College.

- Work with the Deputy Principal - Teaching and Learning and other key staff to effectively manage staff in the Mathematics Learning Area.

- Mentor members of the Mathematics Learning Area by providing constructive feedback, establishing professional goals and supporting continuous improvement through the ASPIRE Performance Development Program.

- Support course counselling and pathway advice where relevant.

- Conduct regular meetings of the Mathematics Learning Area staff.

- Be aware of Mathematics curriculum developments at a local and national level and incorporate appropriate responses to these at a school level.

- Provide a vibrant learning environment at the College by promoting Mathematics activities and competitions as appropriate.

- Manage the existing resources of the Mathematics Learning Area.

- Prepare and submit the annual budget for the Mathematics Learning Area.

- Undertake any other duties as reasonably required by the Principal.

Key Selection Criteria

The successful applicant will:

- Demonstrate an understanding of the charism of Blessed Edmund Rice as articulated in the Charter of Catholic Schools in the Edmund Rice Tradition.

- Give witness to their membership of a Catholic community through their attitudes, actions and practice.





- Possess or be willing to complete all of the requirements for Accreditation to Teach in a Catholic School.

- Be an outstanding educator with a vision for providing the best Mathematics education for all students at the College.

- Model best practice in differentiating curriculum.

- Be willing to become an active member of the CBC Fremantle community with a strong commitment to promoting and supporting the varied aspects of College life.

- Clearly exhibit leadership characteristics including competence, intrinsic motivation, vision, integrity and commitment to continued improvement.

- Have well developed written and oral communication skills.

- Have excellent interpersonal skills.

- Be able to work cooperatively as part of a team.

Position Details

- Commencing 1 January 2027.

- 0.2 Time Allowance.

- A Level 1 monetary allowance is applicable to this position.

- The contract of employment is for a term of eight years subject to successful reviews during the second and fifth years. At the conclusion of the eight-year period, the position will be advertised with the incumbent welcome to re-apply. An ongoing teaching position at the College is assured.
