What you'll be doing

The Youth Peer Worker (YPSW) will provide person centred, recovery oriented and trauma-informed peer support.
As an integral member of the Mental Health team, the YPSW will provide a rapid response to young people aged 12 – 17 years with mental distress and/or psychosocial complexity. Many of these young people present in crisis or are transitioning from hospital care.
Working alongside a mutli-disciplinary team the Youth Peer Support Worker provides assertive, outreach support to young people. The support they provide is timely and appropriate in a place where young people live or feel comfortable.




The Peer Worker works collaboratively with young people to deliver support that aligns with the values of Peer Support and the principles of step up/step down care and recovery orientated care. This includes making connections to a range of community-based services, or supporting consumers to determine if they require more assertive acute care.
The YPSW provides direct peer support to people at risk of suicide presenting to the service. They utilise their lived experience of suicidal crisis to promote social connection, and reduce isolation and loneliness. Through purposeful story tell they use their their lived experience to facilitate hope, role-modelling recovery and build relationships that maintain a trauma informed consumer focus.
The Youth Peer Support provides input into policy and contribute to processes that improve the mental health experiences of consumers.
