About the Role
We are recruiting for the role of Director, Health Equity based in Brisbane. In this role you will lead Cancer Council Queensland's strategic health equity agenda, working across communities, government, health services and sector stakeholders to influence systems change and improve outcomes for people experiencing disadvantage and barriers to care.
This is an Indigenous Identified role and is only open to applicants who identify as Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and forming part of the Senior Leadership Team, you will play a key role in shaping policy, building partnerships, driving collective action and ensuring lived experience and community voice inform decision-making, service design and system reform. While health sector experience will be valued, this role is ultimately about leadership, influence and creating meaningful change.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategic initiatives that improve equity, access and outcomes across health and community systems.
- Build and strengthen partnerships across communities, government, health services and the not-for-profit sector.
- Influence policy, advocacy and reform initiatives that address systemic barriers and inequities.
- Champion Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voice, participation and self-determination.
- Embed culturally safe, person-centred and human rights-based approaches across programs and services.
- Facilitate collaboration, networks and collective action to drive sustainable change.
- Develop frameworks that measure impact, accountability and progress towards health equity outcomes.
What We're Looking For
- Strong experience leading systems change, reform, advocacy or social impact initiatives.
- Deep understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, cultures and priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to influence diverse stakeholders and navigate complex environments.
- Solid strategic thinking, relationship-building and communication skills.
- Understanding of social determinants of health, intersectionality and equity-based approaches.
- A collaborative and values-driven leadership style grounded in humility, authenticity and respect.
- A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
