Orange Accounting & Advisory is a Moonee Ponds based accounting firm providing services to businesses across Melbourne, with particular strength in trades and construction, hospitality and franchising, and more. The firm was established as a sole practice nine years ago and has since grown to a team of 16, comprising 13 staff based in Australia and three offshore, while retaining the close client relationships of a smaller practice. Orange Accounting & Advisory is a CA ANZ member firm and a Xero Platinum Partner, with a scope of work spanning core compliance through to business structuring, business advisory and a range of other services.

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join Orange Accounting in Moonee Ponds on a full time basis. This role suits an experienced practitioner with strong technical grounding in tax and financial statements who is ready to take ownership of a client portfolio and act as a technical mentor to more junior members of the team. The successful candidate will manage their own portfolio of small business clients, engage with clients directly and in person as a matter of course, and act as their primary point of contact on technical matters. Regular face to face client interaction is a core requirement of this role, and candidates should be confident and experienced in managing client relationships in person, rather than working solely through email or file review.

Key responsibilities

- * Manage an assigned portfolio of business clients, including regular face to face client meetings as part of standard practice
- * Prepare and review financial statements and tax returns for individuals, companies, trusts and partnerships
- * Advise clients on tax strategy, business structuring, restructures and general compliance obligations
- * Prepare and lodge BAS, IAS and other ATO compliance requirements
- * Undertake technical tax research and translate findings into clear, practical advice for clients




- * Serve as a technical reference point for the wider team on complex accounting and taxation matters
- * Maintain current knowledge of taxation law and accounting standards relevant to the firm's client base, particularly trades, hospitality and construction
- * Work closely with the principal and tax manager on complex client matters requiring additional oversight
- * Review the work of junior and graduate staff on shared files, providing technical guidance and constructive feedback as part of the day to day workflow

What we're looking for

- * A minimum of five years of recent, relevant accounting experience, ideally gained in public practice
- * Demonstrated confidence and experience managing clients face to face, with strong written and verbal communication skills, equally comfortable with clients, colleagues and the wider team. This is a client facing role
- * Strong technical knowledge across taxation, GST and financial statement preparation, with a logical, analytical approach to complex problems and the judgement and reliability to be entrusted with an independent client portfolio
- * A dynamic, hands on approach, comfortable managing a varied portfolio and competing priorities in a fast paced small business environment
- * Strong time management skills and the ability to manage multiple client accounts simultaneously
- * Genuinely comfortable with technology and cloud based systems, including proficiency with Xero and XPM, and quick to pick up recent tools as the practice's tech stack evolves
- * A genuine willingness to keep learning, both technically and with new systems, and to adapt as legislation and the practice evolve
- * Experience and confidence with tax advice and strategy
