LABOURLENS PTY LTD Labourlens is recruiting on behalf of Somnath Enterprises Pty Ltd t/a Sheds Shade and Turf and Construction Xperts is seeking a full-time Civil Engineering Technician (Australian Permanent Resident or Australian citizens are preferred) to join its team in Fyshwick, ACT, working a minimum of 38 hours per week. The role will support the company’s civil, structural and construction projects by assisting Civil Engineering Professionals with technical activities, site and material information, testing of construction materials, preparation of sketches and technical tabulations, and assistance with project cost estimates. Task & responsibilities
Assist Civil Engineering Professionals with the planning, coordination and technical delivery of civil and structural construction projects. Collect site measurements and other technical information, analyse project data and carry out calculations required for construction activities. Conduct and assist with field testing of construction materials and soils, record test results and identify whether materials meet relevant project specifications and quality requirements.
Inspect civil works during different stages of construction to check that completed work is consistent with approved plans, specifications and applicable requirements.
Prepare technical sketches, layouts, tables, measurements and project records to support the planning and construction of civil engineering works. Calculate and assist with estimating material quantities, construction costs and resource requirements for proposed and ongoing projects.
Review construction materials and components for suitability and assist in ensuring that finished works meet required specifications, regulations and contractual requirements. Assist in preparing work programs, construction schedules and technical documentation, and review project information for accuracy, practicality and feasibility. Support the preparation of specifications and schedules for materials required for civil, structural and building works.
Set up and use appropriate surveying, measuring and technical instruments to collect accurate site information and construction data. Monitor work completed on site, maintain detailed technical notes and measurements, and report any discrepancies or technical issues to the relevant engineer or project manager. Assist with the coordination of maintenance, rectification and repair activities where civil or structural works require corrective action.
Liaise with construction teams, contractors, suppliers and other project stakeholders to obtain technical information and assist in resolving project-related issues. Maintain accurate records of site inspections, material testing, measurements, calculations, sketches and other engineering documentation. Assist in ensuring civil and structural works are completed in accordance with project specifications, relevant standards, safety requirements and approved construction documentation.
Qualification & experience
Minimum Advanced diploma or Diploma in civil engineering, construction design, or other relevant degrees. Minimum 1 year of field experience. Experience in preparing civil engineering drawings and documentation using CAD software within a construction or infrastructure environment.
Ability to interpret engineering plans, specifications and building codes
Strong understanding of Australian civil engineering standards and regulations. Valuable mathematical ability.
Experience in site visits to collect relevant data. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Strong skills in construction drawings
Excellent attention to detail with accurate measurements and documentation. Effective communication skills to collaborate with engineers, architects and project teams.
