The role

We’re looking for a Financial Controller to take ownership of finance at Leaptel. Reporting directly to the CEO, this is the senior finance role in the business. The focus is on maintaining strong financial foundations, ensuring reliable reporting, meeting our financial and statutory obligations, and providing the insight needed to support good business decisions.

This is a hands‑on role, with the opportunity to move between the detail and the bigger picture. At Leaptel's current scale, that means being close to the technical accounting and day‑to‑day operations while also improving how finance works and building the systems, processes and capability needed as the business grows. The role will work closely with the CEO and leaders across the business, providing practical financial advice and helping turn financial information into better decisions.

What the role involves

The Financial Controller will have broad ownership of the finance function, including:

- Maintaining the accuracy, integrity and timeliness of financial records and reporting.
- Leading month-end and year-end close, financial statements and management reporting.




- Managing the external audit and ensuring the business remains audit‑ready.
- Overseeing tax, payroll and other statutory obligations.
- Managing banking and lender relationships and associated reporting.
- Leading budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and working capital management.
- Owning finance systems and integrations, ensuring they are accurate, effective and fit for purpose.
- Leading and developing the finance team as it grows.
- Working with leaders across Leaptel to understand financial performance and support better business decisions.
- Improving finance processes and ways of working as the business scales.

What we’re looking for

This role will suit an experienced finance professional with strong technical capability, commercial thinking and a proven track record of taking ownership. As a newly created role, there’s plenty of scope to shape the direction of the finance function, so initiative and the confidence to make decisions will be important.

Key experience and qualifications include:

- CA or CPA qualification with robust post‑qualification experience.
- At least 8 years’ finance experience, including significant experience as a Financial Controller or Finance Manager.
- Proven experience owning a finance function in a small‑to‑medium business.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge, including AASB.




- A solid understanding of Australian tax and statutory requirements.
- Experience managing an external audit and maintaining strong financial controls.
- Experience working with banks, lenders and related reporting.
- Experience with finance systems and ERP integrations, with an interest in making them work better.
- Experience leading and developing people and building capability within a growing team.
- Experience building or improving finance processes and capability as a business grows.

The role will also involve turning financial information into clear advice and practical insight. You'll need to be comfortable explaining the numbers, asking questions, challenging assumptions and helping teams understand the financial impact of their decisions.
