About the opportunity

As the Senior Animal Ethics Officer, you will be a senior animal ethics specialist with the University, providing expert advice and guidance on complex animal ethics matters within a highly regulated research environment. Reporting to the Animal Ethics Manager, you will exercise a high degree of judgement and autonomy, support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to the ongoing development of animal ethics systems, processes and governance practices. You will work closely with researchers and stakeholders across the University, acting as a key point of expertise on animal ethics matters. You will lead projects, support training and outreach activities, and provide guidance and mentoring to team members to foster consistent and effective animal ethics practices.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

- Provide senior operational and administrative support for animal ethics activities across the University, applying expert knowledge to support effective and compliant animal ethics practices
- Manage complex animal ethics enquiries and act as a key escalation point, providing expert advice on relevant legislation, regulations, policies and guidelines
- Oversee the accuracy, quality and timeliness of animal ethics documentation, reporting and compliance activities
- Build and maintain effective relationships with researchers, committee members and stakeholders to support animal ethics best practice
- Contribute to the development, implementation and continuous improvement of animal ethics policies, procedures, systems and processes, including identifying and implementing enhancements that improve efficiency, compliance and user experience
- Lead animal ethics projects, training programs, outreach activities and operational improvement initiatives
- Provide guidance and leadership to team members, supporting knowledge sharing and consistent practice




- Coordinate risk management and workplace health and safety activities within the work area

About you

- Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying legislation, policies, regulations and guidelines within a governance, compliance, animal ethics or research support environment
- Experience working in the higher education sector or a similarly regulated workplace
- Experience supporting research activities and building effective working relationships with researchers and other stakeholders
- Proven ability to analyse complex issues and provide expert advice to a diverse range of stakeholders
- Strong project management, organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes in a complex regulatory environment
- Highly developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively
- Experience providing leadership, guidance or supervision to staff, including supporting performance and development activities
- Experience contributing to the development, implementation or enhancement of online management systems, processes or business improvements within a compliance or research support environment
- Demonstrated commitment to service excellence, continuous improvement, compliance and integrity, with a focus on achieving high-quality outcomes
