Job Summary The Accountant is responsible for managing financial records, preparing financial reports, performing reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with Australian accounting standards, taxation requirements, and internal financial policies. The role supports accurate financial reporting and provides financial information to assist management with business decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial records and accounting documentation.
- Process accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoices, payments, and receipts.
- Perform monthly and annual account reconciliations.
- Prepare financial statements, management reports, and financial summaries.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Monitor cash flow, expenses, budgets, and financial transactions.
- Prepare and lodge relevant tax and statutory reports as required.
- Ensure compliance with Australian Accounting Standards (AASB) and applicable tax legislation.
- Assist with GST, BAS, PAYG, payroll, and other Australian tax-related requirements.
- Conduct variance analysis and investigate discrepancies in financial records.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure transactions are accurately recorded.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
- Assist with internal and external audits.
- Maintain accurate financial documentation and ensure records are properly retained.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting.
- Provide financial information and advice to management and relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure confidentiality and security of financial information.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
- Proven experience as an Accountant or in a similar accounting role.
- Robust knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Understanding of Australian taxation requirements and accounting regulations.
- Experience with accounting software such as Xero, MYOB, SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics.
- Strong Excel and financial analysis skills.
- Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a finance team.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ), or equivalent professional qualification.
- Experience with Australian BAS, GST, PAYG, and payroll processes.
- Experience in financial reporting and month-end close.
- Knowledge of Australian taxation and corporate compliance requirements.
- Experience with ERP and financial management systems.
- Australian work rights or an appropriate Australian work visa.
