We are looking for an organised and detail-focused Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team. Reporting to the Senior Financial Accountant, you will support a range of day-to-day accounting activities including payment processing, reconciliations, month-end activities, financial reporting and accounts administration.
This is a great opportunity for someone who has commenced their accounting career and is looking to further develop their experience within a supportive and collaborative Finance team.
About the role
As our Assistant Accountant, you will support the effective delivery of financial services across SDN Children's Services and its controlled entities.
Your responsibilities will include
- Managing day-to-day activities within our purchase ordering system, including supplier maintenance, high-volume payment processing, staff reimbursements, fundraising payments and refunds.
- Assisting with general ledger and bank reconciliations and supporting month-end close activities.
- Liaising with internal and external stakeholders regarding outstanding payments, credit notes, reconciliations and other finance enquiries.
- Assisting with GST and BAS preparation and lodgement.
- Providing support for audit activities.
- Assisting with the preparation of accurate and timely financial reports.
- Supporting the implementation and maintenance of financial systems and internal controls.
- Supporting stakeholders with finance systems and processes.
- Ensuring financial transactions,
reconciliations and reporting activities are completed accurately and within required deadlines.
About you To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A Diploma in Accounting or be working towards a university degree in accounting.
- Experience or a good understanding of accrual accounting and general ledger reconciliations.
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- The ability to organise and prioritise multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Good communication skills and the confidence to work with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience with SunSystems, IPOS or ProMaster (ExpenseMe) would be highly regarded but is not essential.
