Our iconic venue hosts some of Australia’s largest conferences, exhibitions, gala events, broadcasts and live experiences. Behind every event is a highly skilled technical team working with professional AV systems across some of the most flexible and technically capable event spaces in the country. We’re looking for experienced live-event technicians who want to bring their skills to MCEC and be part of delivering events at scale.
About Us:
At MCEC, no two events are the same. Each year we deliver more than 1,000 events, from corporate meetings and gala dinners through to major international conferences, exhibitions and large-scale productions.
Our in-house Technology team works across qualified audio, vision, lighting, multimedia, broadcast and event networking systems. With 70,000 square metres of exhibition space, plenary theatres, meeting rooms and event spaces, our technicians work across an incredibly diverse range of events and technical environments.
About the role
We have multiple opportunities for experienced Audio Visual Technicians to join our Technology Services team on a casual basis.
We are particularly interested in experienced Vision Technicians, however we also want to hear from technicians specialising in Lighting and Audio, as well as experienced AV all-rounders.
As part of MCEC's in-house technical team, you'll work across the full event lifecycle — setting up and testing systems, operating live events and packing down at the end of the show. We’re looking for technicians who are comfortable getting hands-on and contributing as part of a larger technical team.
We’re looking for experience and strong technical skills in two or more of the following areas:
- Setting, programming and operating Barco Event Master S3 and E2 presentation systems
- Integrating vision and streaming services using vMix and Zoom Events
- Setting and operating Roland V-160HD video switchers
- Setting up, operating and packing down LED walls and large-format screens
- Hanging, focusing and operating large-venue projection systems
- Programming and operating grandMA3 lighting systems
- Operating skilled digital audio consoles, with DiGiCo experience highly regarded
- Working as a Monitor Operator, particularly for corporate events, gala dinners and live entertainment
- Working across professional Audio, Vision and Lighting systems
- Troubleshooting technical systems in setup and live-event environments
MCEC operates across extended hours, with casual shifts available across weekdays, evenings, overnight and weekends. The majority of our technical shifts fall between 5:00 am and 2:00 am.
About You
- We’re looking for experienced technicians who know their way around live events and understand that delivering a great show involves more than just operating it. A strong customer service focus is essential. You’ll work directly with clients, presenters, performers and event teams, so clear communication, professionalism and a solutions-focused approach are a must.
You’ll ideally also have
- At least three years’ professional experience in live events, corporate AV,
broadcast or a similar technical environment
- Strong technical capability in Vision, Lighting or Audio, with experience across multiple disciplines highly regarded
- Hands-on experience setting up, operating and packing down professional AV systems
- The ability to confidently troubleshoot technical equipment and systems
- Experience working in fast-paced live-event environments where timing and attention to detail matter
- A willingness to get hands-on and contribute across all stages of event delivery
- The ability to work effectively as part of a larger technical and event delivery team
- Availability across a range of shifts, including weekdays, evenings and weekends
You don’t need to be an expert in every discipline. If you’re an experienced technician with strong skills in Vision, Lighting or Audio, we’d like to hear from you.
Why choose us? If you work in live events, MCEC offers something a little different.
You’ll work across an enormous variety of events and spaces, using professional equipment alongside experienced technicians at one of Australia’s leading event venues.
For freelance and casual technicians, it’s also an opportunity to add regular venue work to your calendar while continuing to work across the wider events industry.
Working at a Melbourne icon isn’t the only benefit. We also offer:
- Employee discounts at onsite restaurants, cafés and parking
- Uniform provided and cleaned onsite
- Career development and progression opportunities
- Employee wellbeing initiatives
At MCEC, we are committed to creating an inclusive workplace where different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives are valued. If you’re an experienced live-event technician looking for your next opportunity, we’d love to hear from you.
