SMW Group is expanding our workshop capability and is seeking an experienced Automotive Spray Painter and/or Panel Beater to join our Central Queensland team. We’re looking for someone who takes genuine pride in their trade. Someone who understands that a quality finish starts well before the paint goes on and who can deliver a high standard of preparation, repair and refinishing from start to finish.

You'll have the opportunity to work across a diverse range of vehicles, components and equipment, supporting SMW Group's broader maintenance and operational capability across Central Queensland and the Bowen Basin. The Role

Working as part of our workshop team, you'll be responsible for delivering high-quality repair, preparation and refinishing work across a variety of projects.

Your responsibilities may include

- Automotive and equipment spray painting and refinishing
- Full surface preparation including sanding, masking, filling and priming
- Colour matching, paint mixing and application
- Panel beating, straightening and body repairs
- Dent, panel and minor structural repairs
- Repair and preparation of vehicle and equipment components
- Identifying damage and determining appropriate repair methods
- Preparing surfaces to achieve a high-quality professional finish
- Working with primers, base coats, clear coats and associated paint systems
- Completing work to required quality and time expectations
- Maintaining workshop, tooling and equipment to a high standard
- Working closely with tradespeople, supervisors and the wider SMW Group maintenance team
- Maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality and workmanship at all times

What We're Looking For





We're looking for a tradesperson who knows their craft and takes ownership of the finished product. Ideally, you'll bring:
- Trade qualification in Automotive Refinishing Technology, Panel Beating or a related trade
- Previous experience as a Spray Painter, Panel Beater or combination of both
- Strong knowledge of preparation, paint application and finishing processes
- Experience completing repairs from initial preparation through to final finish
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to identify defects and achieve a consistently high standard of finish
- Ability to work independently without compromising quality
- Strong safety awareness and good workshop practices
- Current driver's licence
- Reliable work ethic and a positive, team-focused attitude

Experience within heavy vehicles, mining equipment, machinery or industrial environments will be highly regarded, but isn't essential.
