About thePosition
Reporting to the Director, Conciliations Team within the DisputeResolution and Support Services Branch (the Branch),Conciliatorsare responsibleforundertaking informaldispute resolution of individual rights-based disputesincluding unfair dismissal and general protections involvingdismissal matters. This work includes conductingconciliations. Conciliators also play a leadership role,mentoring and coaching others and promoting an understandingof dispute resolution principles,processesand skillsinternally and externally.

Duties

- Developandmaintainan understanding of the team’s andBranch’s impact on the Commission’s strategic andoperationalobjectives.
- Contribute to strategicplanning anddelivery of team, Branch and Commissionpriorities andobjectivesincluding continuousimprovement of the Commission’s dispute resolutionservice.
- Deliverhigh quality,timelyalternate dispute resolutionservices consistent with the Conciliators’ Quality AssuranceFramework and other guidance materials.
- Usetechnology effectively to undertake dispute resolution andrelated activities within agreedtimeframesincludingto schedule, prepare for and complete postconciliation/conference activities such as prepare terms ofsettlement, close and refer matters to chambers and reportingrequirements.




- Maintainspecialistdisputeresolutionknowledgeandexpertiseandnational accreditation as a mediator.
- Supportthe development of self and others including:
- participating inpeer to peer and external observationprograms,
- guiding,coachingandmentoring others (including relief conciliators) toachieve their best performance with a robust clientservice focus and culture, and
- deliveringinternal and external training andpresentations.

- Managecomplex and sensitive escalations, including resolving conflictand contributing to strategicsolutions,problem-solvingand issues management forinternal and external stakeholders.
- Buildand sustain productive working relationships, collaboratingwith a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders toachieve the Commission’sobjectivesand overcomeconflict.
- Provideexpert,practicaland impartial advice and support toCommission Members, the General Manager and seniorleadership.
- Upholdand promote an inclusive, healthy, and safe workingenvironment, modelling and promoting ethical behaviour andpractices consistent with the APS Code of Conduct andValues.
- Engagepositively with risk and embed risk management in planning,decision making, and contributing toteamobjectives.




- Workcollaboratively and flexibly to support the branch todeliverobjectives, including by performing other dutieswhenrequired.

Commission staff have accessto hybrid working arrangements where they can work a combination of in the office and from home.
