Commissioning Engineer

Melbourne- Subject to travel (remote locations)

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced Commissioning Engineer to lead testing and commissioning activities on major electrical projects. You'll be the subject matter expert for primary and secondary equipment testing, and provide specialist engineering support to project teams on quotations, bids, and tender submissions. Reporting to the Commissioning Manager, you'll take ownership of all testing and commissioning activities within your portfolio.

What You'll Do

- Perform HV testing and commissioning of primary equipment (415V–500kV), including transformers, CBs, CTs, VTs, and switchgear
- Carry out secondary injection relay testing across transmission, distribution, generation, and traction environments
- Test and integrate protection relays, control devices, SCADA, and AC/DC control systems
- Apply and modify IED settings, and plan/integrate new protection and control schemes into existing systems
- Prepare commissioning methodology, management plans, relay test plans, ITPs, and acceptance documentation
- Lead and manage testing and commissioning delivery,



including internal and subcontracted resources
- Provide technical support and leadership to site testing teams, project managers, and stakeholders
- Implement risk management processes (SWMS/JSEA) and maintain a solid safety culture

About You

- Bachelor degree (or equivalent) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering
- 5+ years' experience testing and commissioning primary and secondary protection and control equipment
- Advanced knowledge of power systems protection principles and applications
- Proven ability to lead commissioning activities within the electrical utility industry
- Proficiency with test equipment/software such as Omicron Test Universe, Doble Protection Suite, CMC series, or similar
- IEC 61850 testing exposure and project management experience are advantageous but not essential
