Electrical Engineer – Power Systems & Protection

Brisbane | Hybrid & Versatile Working | $110k–$140k + Super (dependent on experience)

A rare opportunity has become available for an ambitious Electrical Engineer to become the first permanent engineering hire within a growing specialist power engineering consultancy in Brisbane.

Working directly alongside the Founder, an experienced power systems and protection engineer with more than 20 years' industry experience, you'll receive genuine one-on-one technical mentorship while gaining exposure across power systems, protection engineering, electrical design, technical investigations and advisory work.

This opportunity will suit an engineer who has built a strong technical foundation but doesn't want to become siloed into one discipline. You'll be encouraged to broaden your capability, understand the "why" behind engineering decisions and develop into a genuinely well-rounded engineer.

The Opportunity The business provides specialist electrical engineering services across transmission, distribution, renewable energy, BESS, mining, generation, data centres and industrial infrastructure .

Its work spans three core areas:

Engineering

- Power system studies
- Load flow and short-circuit studies
- Arc flash studies
- Protection coordination and settings
- System modelling
- Engineering calculations and technical reports

Design

- Electrical and HV design
- Single line diagrams
- Distribution design
- Design reviews
- Technical documentation
- Bespoke engineering solutions

Research & Technical Advisory

- Root cause and failure investigations
- Independent engineering reviews
- Technical research
- Development of engineering methodologies
- Complex technical problem-solving

The focus is on technically challenging, varied work rather than repetitive "cookie-cutter" engineering.

The Role

You'll work directly with the Founder across project delivery while progressively taking greater ownership of engineering work and client relationships.

Depending on your existing experience, you'll gain exposure to:

You won't be expected to know everything from day one. The opportunity is specifically designed for an engineer who wants to continue developing across power systems, protection, design, investigations and technical advisory under experienced mentorship.

About You

You'll be a degree-qualified Electrical Engineer, ideally with approximately 3–5 years' industry experience .

Your background could come from an engineering consultancy, EPC contractor, utility or specialist power engineering business, with exposure across areas such as:

- Power systems
- Protection engineering
- HV electrical design
- Transmission and distribution
- Renewable energy / BESS
- EPC project delivery
- Commissioning and testing

Experience with PowerFactory, ETAP, SKM, AutoCAD, PSCAD, CDEGS or protection relay software would be advantageous, but breadth of experience and willingness to learn are equally important.

Location & Flexibility This position is Brisbane-based , and candidates should ideally live within approximately one hour of Brisbane CBD and be able to attend meetings and collaborate in person when required.

The business currently offers genuine flexibility and hybrid working, with office-based working available for those who prefer it.

As the team grows, the longer-term model will move towards approximately 2 days per week in the office and 3 days working from home .
