Sydney

The Company

Our client is a highly established and respected boutique Cost Management & Advisory Consultancy with an excellent reputation across the Australian construction market.

Working with major institutional and public-sector clients, the business provides specialist cost management, estimating and commercial advisory services across complex building and social infrastructure projects.

Their boutique structure provides employees with direct access to senior leadership, greater influence over projects and clients, and a significantly clearer route to career progression than is often available within larger consultancies.

Due to a substantial project pipeline and continued growth, they are now looking to appoint an experienced Executive Quantity Surveyor to their Sydney team. For the right person, this position offers a genuine opportunity to progress to Associate within approximately 12 months.

About the Role

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong Quantity Surveyor who wants to progress their career through project delivery, leadership and client advisory rather than business development.

You will step into an established workload, take responsibility for major client commissions and lead a team of four cost management professionals.

Importantly, you will not be expected to win work, bring a book of clients or spend your time chasing the next commission.

The business has a significant workload extending through to 2032 and is looking for someone who can concentrate on what they do best: leading people, advising clients and delivering high-quality cost management and advisory services.

You'll work across major social infrastructure projects with values reaching $1.5B , providing exposure to complex, high-profile programmes while working directly with senior leaders and clients.

Responsibilities

- Lead the cost management and estimating function across major social infrastructure projects valued up to $1.5B
- Manage, mentor and provide technical leadership to a team of four
- Deliver detailed cost plans, estimates and commercial advice throughout the project lifecycle
- Undertake feasibility studies, benchmarking,

cost planning and option analysis
- Provide procurement, tendering and contract strategy advice
- Prepare and review project cost reports, forecasts and commercial recommendations
- Provide strategic cost and commercial advice directly to clients and key project stakeholders
- Manage multiple commissions and ensure projects are delivered accurately, commercially and to a high professional standard
- Develop strong relationships with existing clients through the successful delivery of projects
- Work directly with senior leadership while demonstrating your capability to operate at Associate level

What Do You Need? To be considered for this opportunity, you will ideally demonstrate:

- A tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics or a related discipline
- Strong consultancy-side Quantity Surveying, Cost Management or Estimating experience
- A proven track record delivering high-quality cost management services across major projects
- Strong pre-contract cost planning and estimating capabilities
- Exposure to major building, government or social infrastructure projects
- Previous experience managing, mentoring or developing other Quantity Surveyors
- Robust client-facing and stakeholder management capabilities
- The technical and commercial capability to take ownership of major commissions
- The ambition to progress into an Associate position
- Professional accreditation through AIQS, RICS or a similar professional body would be advantageous.

Who Will This Suit? This role will particularly suit an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor, Executive Quantity Surveyor or Cost Manager who knows they are capable of operating at Associate level but doesn't want their next promotion to depend on becoming a salesperson.

You may currently be working within a larger consultancy where you've reached the point that further progression increasingly depends on business development, networking and generating new fees .

That's not what this opportunity is about.

There is no business development requirement.

You don't need to arrive with a client book. You won't be expected to spend your evenings networking for the next project, and you won't need to generate a pipeline before being considered for promotion.

The work is already there.

Instead, your progression will be driven by your ability to lead your team, manage major commissions, provide excellent advice to clients and consistently deliver high-quality work.

For someone who enjoys the technical, leadership and client side of Quantity Surveying but has little interest in becoming a dedicated fee-winner, this could provide a very different route to Associate.

What You'll Get in Return The standout attraction is a genuine pathway from Executive Quantity Surveyor to Associate within approximately 12 months , subject to performance. You'll inherit an established workload rather than being expected to build a desk from scratch, with a substantial pipeline of work extending through to 2032 .

You'll lead a team of four, work directly with senior decision-makers and gain exposure to major social infrastructure projects valued up to $1.5B. As part of a boutique consultancy, you'll also have greater visibility and influence within the business, without the lengthy hierarchy and promotion structures that can come with much larger organisations.

Most importantly, you can build a senior career based on being an excellent Quantity Surveyor and leader – not on how much new work you can sell.

If you're technically strong, ready for greater responsibility and believe you're capable of becoming an Associate within the next 12 months , this represents an excellent opportunity to make that progression.

Salary up to $180K package
