About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Structural Project Engineer to drive the successful delivery of structural design projects. In this key leadership role, you will provide technical expertise, oversee project execution, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and engage with stakeholders to deliver safe, innovative, and cost-effective engineering solutions on time and to the highest standards.
Duties
Interpret project specifications, client requirements, and relevant standards to develop safe, compliant, and practical structural design solutions.
Undertake and review structural analysis, engineering calculations, and designs for steel structures in accordance with applicable Australian Standards.
Review and validate engineering drawings, calculations, and 3D models to ensure accuracy, constructability, and alignment with project requirements and design intent.
Lead the structural design process across multiple projects, ensuring deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimise designs for fabrication, manufacture, transport, installation, and overall project efficiency.
Engage with clients, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders to address technical queries, manage expectations, and deliver effective engineering solutions.
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineers, designers, and drafting personnel, supporting capability development across the team.
Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and constructability reviews to identify and mitigate potential project risks.
Provide technical support throughout fabrication and construction phases, including reviewing shop drawings, responding to RFIs, and resolving site-related engineering issues.
Manage design documentation, revisions, approvals, and project deliverables, ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Coordinate with project managers and internal stakeholders to monitor project progress, resources, budgets, and design milestones.
Ensure all engineering activities comply with relevant legislation, Australian Standards, company procedures, and client specifications.
Identify opportunities to improve design methodologies, engineering processes, and project delivery outcomes through continuous improvement initiatives.
Participate in client meetings, site inspections, audits, and technical workshops as required.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry developments, emerging technologies, and best practices in structural engineering and infrastructure projects.
Foster a strong safety culture by incorporating safe design principles and championing quality outcomes throughout all stages of project delivery.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring a combination of strong technical expertise, practical industry experience, and a collaborative approach to engineering design.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
Minimum 5 to 10 years' experience in structural design and project engineering, with a focus on steel structures and infrastructure projects.
Proficiency in structural analysis and design software, preferably Space Gass.
Sound understanding of steel fabrication, manufacturing processes, construction methodologies, and detailing practices.
Strong working knowledge of relevant Australian Standards, including AS/NZS 5131, AS 1657, AS 4100, and AS 1170.
Demonstrated ability to interpret engineering specifications, technical documentation, and client requirements.
Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and managing engineering deliverables throughout the project lifecycle.
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and technical decision-making skills.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to effectively engage with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritise competing deadlines, and deliver high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
