We're seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join our automotive retail business on a 6-month fixed-term contract with the view to go permanent. You'll step into a pivotal role overseeing all operational finance functions, with direct responsibility for finance team leadership, statutory compliance, and strategic financial management.
This is a hands-on role for someone ready to make an immediate impact. You'll manage day-to-day financial operations while ensuring the business runs smoothly through peak trading periods and financial close processes. We are looking for someone who can start immediately or within the next week.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the operational finance team, including payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions
- Oversee all month-end and year-end financial close processes
- Manage audit preparation and liaise with external auditors throughout the audit cycle
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and financial reporting requirements
- Manage cash flow forecasting and working capital
- Oversee inventory accounting and stock valuation processes
- Provide financial analysis and reporting to senior management and stakeholders
- Implement financial controls and process improvements across the finance function
- Manage general ledger and chart of accounts
- Prepare management accounts and financial statements
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 10+ years of progressive experience in finance roles, with at least 5+ years leading finance teams
- CA or CPA qualification (or equivalent professional accounting qualification)
- Proven experience in operational finance and end-to-end financial management
- Demonstrated expertise in payroll, compliance, and statutory reporting
- Strong year-end audit experience and audit management
- Preferred: Experience in retail, automotive, or industries with significant inventory/stock management
- Solid knowledge of accounting systems and financial software
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
