Company Description BackTrack Youth Works, based in Armidale, NSW, is a nationally recognised organisation that supports vulnerable young people who are not being adequately reached by mainstream systems. Founded in 2006 by Bernie Shakeshaft, BackTrack was built on a mission to keep young people alive, out of jail, and focused on their hopes and dreams.

Role Description The Human Resources Professional will play a key role in supporting BackTrack’s people, culture, and compliance functions in an in office capacity in Australia. This full-time position is responsible for day-to-day HR activities including recruitment and onboarding, maintaining employee records, coordinating training and development, and supporting performance and feedback processes.
The role will also assist with HR policies and procedures, workplace health and safety compliance, and ensuring adherence to relevant employment legislation and organisational standards.
The Human Resources
Professional will partner with managers and youth work teams to foster a positive, inclusive, and trauma-informed work environment, and to support staff wellbeing and retention. This role requires regular collaboration with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure HR practices align with BackTrack’s mission and values.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated skills in core HR functions, such as recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, and HR administration.
- Experience supporting performance management, training coordination, and staff development initiatives.
- Knowledge of Australian employment legislation, workplace health and safety requirements, and HR policy implementation.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to build trust across diverse teams.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a values-driven, youth-focused environment, with sensitivity to complex and vulnerable circumstances.
- Robust organisational and time management skills, including attention to detail, documentation, and confidentiality.
- Proficiency with HR information systems and standard office software (e.g., HRIS, MS Office or equivalent).
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Business, Industrial Relations, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
- Experience or strong interest in the community, social enterprise, or youth work sectors is highly desirable.
- Ability to meet any applicable working with children, background check, or safeguarding requirements.
