The EL1 IT Disaster Recovery & Cyber Resilience Specialist is responsible for supporting the development, governance, assurance and continuous improvement of the ICT Disaster Recovery capability. The role provides strategic direction and specialist advice to ensure technology services can be recovered in line with business recovery requirements, regulatory obligations and the organisations risk appetite.
Key duties and responsibilities
Responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:
- Designing, implementing and maintaining enterprise-level ICT Disaster Recovery capabilities, including disaster recovery plans, technical recovery runbooks, testing programs and recovery governance arrangements. Assessing organisational risk and capability gaps related to crisis management and infrastructure resilience.
- Development and maintenance of ICT Disaster Recovery Strategy, Policy and Standards.
- Coordination of disaster recovery governance, reporting and assurance activities.
- Oversight of Technical Recovery Runbook development across Technology functions.
- Management of ICT Disaster Recovery audit and remediation activities.
- Integration of DR requirements into architecture, project delivery and operational processes.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to integrate disaster recovery requirements with broader resilience and continuity activities. Understanding of IT infrastructure concepts and DR technologies (e.g., backup systems, cloud platforms).
- Understanding on cyber threat tactics, techniques and procedures and relay the impact on Disaster Recovery.
- Implementing contingency planning frameworks and standards (e.g., NIST 800-34, ISM, ISO 27001 / 22301).
- Conducting tabletop exercises, test execution,
and post-mortem reviews.
- Implementing cloud-based continuity best practices and solutions.
- Aligning DR practices with enterprise risk management frameworks and audit expectations.

Technical skills
- ICT Disaster Recovery and cyber resilience frameworks
- Business Impact Analysis (BIA), system criticality assessments and recovery prioritisation
- Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO)
- Disaster recovery testing, assurance and reporting
- ICT governance, risk and compliance
- Cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure, AWS, SaaS)
- NIST, ISO 22301, PSPF and ISM
Essential criteria
1. Minimum of five years’ experience ICT Disaster Recovery, technology resilience, , cyber security or related fields.
2. Experience in Australian Government organisations.
3. Demonstrated experience developing ICT Disaster Recovery strategies, policies, standards, operating models or governance frameworks.
4. Solid understanding of IT infrastructure, enterprise architecture, cloud environments, system dependencies, resiliency patterns and cybersecurity principles.
5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable criteria
1. Experience implementing and operating ICT Disaster Recovery capabilities, including planning, testing, assurance and recovery exercises.
2. Knowledge of Australian Government security and resilience frameworks including PSPF, ISM and Essential Eight.
3. Experience integrating ICT Disaster Recovery with cyber security, incident response, crisis management, risk management or resilience functions .
4. Experience working with Business Impact Analysis (BIA), recovery prioritisation, criticality assessments, Recovery Time Objectives (RTOs) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPOs).
