Neonico Construction is looking for an experienced Leading Hand Labourer to join our commercial construction team in Melbourne. This is a hands-on role for someone who takes pride in their work, keeps a site running smoothly, and can guide a small crew while still getting stuck into the job themselves.

You'll work closely with our Site Managers to support skilled trades and keep our commercial projects moving on time, safely and to a high standard.

About the Role

As Leading Hand, you'll be the go-to person on site for coordinating labour, mentoring junior team members, and making sure the day-to-day work gets done right. Day to day, you'll be:

- Building and maintaining site amenities areas and offices
- Loading, unloading and transporting materials, including operating machinery such as forklifts and scissor lifts
- Preparing and cleaning construction sites, removing debris and hazards
- Using hand and power tools to complete general construction tasks
- Supporting trades such as carpenters, concreters and plumbers as required
- Operating small machinery safely, including compactors and jackhammers
- Erecting and dismantling temporary structures such as scaffolding and barricades
- Coordinating daily activities with supervisors, builders and other trades to keep the site running smoothly
- Enforcing WHS standards on site and conducting regular safety checks, including PPE compliance
- Providing guidance, training and mentorship to apprentices and junior team members




- Managing tools and materials — ensuring correct use, maintenance, secure storage, and reporting shortages or damage
- Maintaining clear communication across the team and other trades

What We're Looking For

- Proven experience as a leading hand or senior labourer on commercial construction sites
- Sound knowledge of WHS requirements and a genuine commitment to site safety
- Confidence operating small plant and machinery, appropriately licensed (forklift/scissor lift tickets highly regarded)
- Basic carpentry skills and hands-on trade support experience
- Robust communication skills and the ability to coordinate with supervisors and other trades
- A natural mentor who's keen to guide and upskill apprentices and junior staff
- A reliable, organised approach to tools, materials and site presentation
- A current White Card (mandatory) and own reliable transport
