The Opportunity & Key Responsibilities
ZIMMERMANN is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel, Employment to join our Legal team at our Sydney Head Office in Rosebery. Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel, Employment, this role provides specialised employment law advice and guidance to support our Legal and HR teams across the jurisdictions in which the brand operates, with a particular focus on the USA, Mexico, South East Asia and Australia.
You will work closely with local employment law counsel and internal stakeholders across Legal, HR, Retail and Finance to navigate complex employment matters,
support compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements, and manage employment related risk. The role will also contribute advice on privacy law and provide broader legal support to the business where required.
This opportunity is well suited to a proactive and solutions focused employment lawyer who enjoys working across multiple jurisdictions, building trusted stakeholder relationships and delivering clear, commercially considered advice in a dynamic global environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise on legal and regulatory requirements relevant to employment law across the business.
- Provide guidance on employment policies, workplace practices and processes, workplace relations, employment agreements and fair work practices.
- Draft, negotiate and review employment and contractor agreements.
- Identify emerging employment law risks and provide practical advice to support effective risk management.
- Advise on and assist with internal investigations, disputes and claims relating to employment matters.
- Partner closely with HR and Retail teams across Australia, the USA, Mexico, South East Asia and the European Union.
- Work with external legal and HR providers across relevant jurisdictions.
- Advise on privacy law matters and provide legal support across other areas as required, including disputes and consumer law matters in different jurisdictions.
What You Will Bring
- Admission as a solicitor with approximately three to six years post qualification experience.
- Training within a reputable private practice firm or experience in a comparable in house role.
- Dedicated employment law experience, with front end advisory experience preferred.
- Experience advising on privacy law matters.
- General commercial law experience, particularly contract drafting and review, is helpful but not essential.
- Clear communication skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- A proactive, organised and solutions focused approach, with the ability to identify priorities and deliver accurate work within required timeframes.
- The ability to develop knowledge of employment law requirements in new jurisdictions.
- A collaborative working style and the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Adaptability and an interest in contributing across both employment and broader legal matters.
