A recent increase in work has meant that we're currently seeking talented legal professionals to join our Legal team in one of two exciting 6-month contract opportunities based at our Melbourne Support Office.
Whether you're an experienced lawyer looking to transition from private practice into an in-house role, or a paralegal seeking greater variety and broader commercial exposure, these opportunities offer the chance to work closely with a nationally recognised franchise business and gain valuable experience across a dynamic property and franchising portfolio.
Unlike traditional law firm environments where you may specialise in one area, these roles offer variety, autonomy, and exposure to a range of legal and commercial matters across a national business.
Prospect 1: Legal Counsel (Property & Franchising)
Reporting to the Head of Legal, this role plays a pivotal part in delivering end-to-end legal support across Bakers Delight's franchise and property portfolio.
You'll work closely with Franchise Development, Property and Operations teams, providing practical and commercially focused legal advice while managing a broad range of franchising and property transactions.
Key responsibilities:
- Draft, review and negotiate franchise agreements, leasing and property documentation.
- Manage end-to-end franchise and property transactions.
- Provide legal advice on franchising, disclosure requirements, retail leasing matters and commercial issues.
- Support network growth through new franchise and property transactions.
- Monitor compliance with the Franchising Code of Conduct and relevant retail leasing legislation.
- Maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external legal representatives.

You will bring
- At least 5 years' experience as an Australian lawyer specialising in franchising, property and/or commercial law.
- Experience gained within a reputable law firm or an in-house legal environment.
- Strong knowledge of the Franchising Code of Conduct and Australian retail leasing legislation.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- A pragmatic and commercially minded approach to problem solving.
- The ability to manage multiple transactions and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Opportunity 2: Paralegal (Property) Reporting to the Head of Legal, this hybrid role supports both the Property and Legal teams across a broad range of leasing, franchising and legal administration activities.
This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop your skills in a dynamic in-house environment while gaining exposure to a national property portfolio and franchise network.
Key responsibilities:
- Support the administration and management of Bakers Delight's national property portfolio.
- Coordinate lease administration activities and maintain leasing records.
- Manage bank guarantees, landlord correspondence and property documentation.
- Assist with franchise transactions and related administration.
- Prepare correspondence and legal documentation using established templates.
- Conduct legal and property research.
- Produce reports and maintain data within LeaseEagle.
- Provide administrative and project support across the Legal and Property teams.

- Experience in a Paralegal, Legal Assistant, Property Administration or similar role.
- Exposure to leasing, property, franchising or legal administration.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A proactive approach and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
