Primary Focus
Provide advanced operational support for Linux-based cloud compute environments, including patching, configuration management, troubleshooting, and automation. Act as the primary operational layer for Linux systems, ensuring stability, compliance, and resilience across production and non-production environments. The role also encompasses support for middleware, messaging, database, cloud services, and virtualization technologies.
Core Responsibilities
- Linux Patching & Compliance
- Execute and validate RHEL patching cycles.
- Generate and share snapshots for patching validation.
- Ensure post-certification checks and compliance reporting.
- Controlled Change Execution
- Perform changes in lower and production environments with strict adherence to “Do Not Reboot” directives for sensitive servers.
- Coordinate with global teams during patching windows.
- Automation & Scripting
- Develop and maintain utility scripts for Linux operations.
- Manage GitHub pull requests for script changes and reviews.
- Implement automation using Ansible for patching and configuration tasks.
- Incident Management
- Own all Linux-related incidents, lead troubleshooting during major outages, and provide root cause analysis.
- Support incidents involving MQ, Apache/Tomcat, Oracle Exadata, and AWS services.
- Data Management
- Handle production data copy requests and ensure timely delivery to downstream systems.
- Vendor Coordination
- Engage with hardware vendors for diagnostics and log collection during escalations.
- Middleware & Dependency Handling
- Address patching dependencies for components such as SiteMinder, Oracle client, Apache/Tomcat, and MQ.
- Monitoring & Reporting
- Share patching progress reports and compliance dashboards with stakeholders.
- Validate patching success across multiple environments.
- Collaboration
- Work closely with database, middleware, and security teams during patching and incident resolution.
- Participate in regional team discussions for change planning and incident updates.
Minimum Requirements
- Robust Linux administration skills (RHEL focus), including system configuration and performance tuning.
- Proven experience in enterprise patching cycles and compliance frameworks.
- Proficiency in GitHub for code reviews and script management.
- Ability to troubleshoot under pressure during major incidents and lead technical bridges.
- Familiarity with ServiceNow or similar ITSM tools for change and incident workflows.
- Strong communication skills for global coordination and vendor engagement.
- Hands-on experience with MQ, Apache/Tomcat, Oracle Exadata, AWS services, VMware, Nutanix, and Ansible or similar technologies.
Desired Competencies
- Advanced shell scripting and exposure to Python for automation.
- Understanding of middleware dependencies (SiteMinder, Oracle client, MQ, Apache/Tomcat).
- Networking fundamentals (DNS, routing, OSI layers) and Linux storage management.
- Performance and capacity management for Linux systems.
- Familiarity with IAM principles and secure file transfer protocols.
- Experience in global operations and high-blast-radius incident handling.
Nice to Have
- Hardware diagnostics and vendor engagement experience.
- CI/CD integration for Linux patching automation.
- Awareness of resilience strategies for critical infrastructure.
- Exposure to hybrid cloud environments and orchestration tools.
