Who Are We Looking For?

We're looking for an experienced Mechanical Pre-Contracts Lead to take ownership of the mechanical pre-contracts function and help drive our next stage of growth. This isn't a traditional estimating role though. You'll work at the front end of major projects, helping shape delivery strategies, influence design outcomes, lead complex bid submissions and provide strategic commercial guidance on some of Queensland's most significant mechanical services opportunities.

Reporting to the Pre-Contracts Manager, you will play a key role in leading mechanical estimating and pre-contracts activities across a diverse range of sectors and clients. This includes managing Design & Construct projects and supporting Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) engagements from concept through to submission.

What You'll Be Doing

As Mechanical Pre-Contracts Lead, you'll take ownership of the estimating and pre-contracts process from initial opportunity through to project handover.

Estimating & Tendering





· Review drawings, specifications, scopes and RFQs to understand project requirements.

· Prepare detailed first-principles estimates covering labour, materials, fabrication, installation, equipment and subcontractors.

· Complete take-offs and develop accurate labour and installation allowances.

· Estimate a wide range of mechanical works, including HVAC, structural steel, conveyors, platforms, equipment installations, pipework and industrial infrastructure.

· Obtain and assess supplier and subcontractor pricing.

· Prepare competitive tenders, quotations and proposals.

· Define pricing methodologies, assumptions, inclusions and exclusions.

· Identify scope gaps, project risks and opportunities.

Commercial & Stakeholder Management

· Ensure estimates align with project brief’s, delivery methodology and commercial requirements.

· Assess and price risks appropriately while protecting NRG's commercial position.

· Identify value-engineering opportunities and alternative delivery approaches.

· Attend client meetings, site inspections and tender briefings.

· Collaborate with engineering, operations and delivery teams to validate project assumptions.

· Build strong relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors.

Project Handover & Continuous Improvement

· Provide structured handovers to project delivery teams.

· Ensure all estimate documentation, assumptions and supplier information are transferred accurately.





· Participate in estimate-to-actual reviews and lessons learned.

· Support improvements to estimating systems, processes and cost databases.

Experience

· Extensive mechanical services estimating experience.

· Strong HVAC-R knowledge including chilled water, DX, VRF and ventilation systems.

· Strong understanding of mechanical fabrication, construction and industrial project delivery methodologies.

· Experience pricing projects valued from $3M to $20M+.

· Demonstrated success in Design & Construct (D&C;), Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) environments or alternative delivery models.

· Strong understanding of commercial risk management.

· Ability to review drawings, specifications and contracts.

· Advanced Excel and estimating software capability.

· Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

· Mechanical Engineering degree (highly desirable).
