About the opportunity
Altrad is seeking an experienced Mechanical Supervisor to join our team for upcoming shuts on Rio projects commencing from September.
Reporting to the Construction Manager, this role will be responsible for supervising and coordinating mechanical maintenance and construction activities, ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards.
You will lead a team of mechanical tradespeople and trades assistants, coordinate resources and activities, and work closely with maintenance, production, safety, quality, contractors, and other project stakeholders to achieve project outcomes.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Supervisor to take a key leadership role on a major mining project while contributing to a strong safety culture, high-quality delivery, and the development of a skilled workforce.
In this role, you will:
- Lead and supervise mechanical tradespeople and trades assistants throughout the shutdown, allocating work and monitoring performance.
- Coordinate and oversee mechanical shutdown activities, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and within agreed shutdown schedules and milestones.
- Work closely with Maintenance Planners and project stakeholders to coordinate labour, equipment, materials, and resources required for shutdown execution.
- Promote and uphold Altrad’s HSEQ standards through pre-starts, toolbox talks, inspections, and safe work practices, contributing to a zero-harm culture.
- Ensure mechanical works are completed in accordance with project specifications, procedures, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor progress against shutdown schedules and proactively identify and resolve safety, quality, resourcing, and operational issues.
- Liaise with contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure effective coordination and delivery of shutdown activities.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to the workforce while promoting high standards of workmanship and continuous improvement.
- Maintain accurate shutdown documentation, work records, inspections, reporting, and other project requirements.
About you
You are an experienced, safety focused Mechanical Supervisor with proven shutdown experience and a strong background in mining, resources, heavy industry, maintenance, or construction.
You have the technical knowledge and leadership capability to manage mechanical crews in a fast paced shutdown environment, where safety, productivity, quality, and meeting critical deadlines are essential.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Cert III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade or equivalent.
- Experience in a mechanical supervisory role, preferably within mining, resources, heavy industry, or shutdown environments.
- Demonstrated experience supervising mechanical shutdowns and coordinating tradespeople, contractors, labour, and resources.
- Strong mechanical trade knowledge and understanding of maintenance, installation, repair, and shutdown activities.
- Strong communication, leadership, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
