MECHANICAL TRADE ASSISTANT – CASUAL

Brilliant Boton Australia is seeking casual Mechanical Trade Assistants to join our conveyor maintenance / mechanical team, supporting mechanical tradespeople and conveyor technicians across workshop, field service and mine site operations.

Reporting to the Mechanical Supervisor and Coordinator, your duties will include but are not limited to:

- Assisting tradespeople with conveyor and fixed plant maintenance activities.

- Supporting conveyor inspections, repairs and component replacement.

- Assisting with the installation, maintenance and refurbishment of belt cleaners, scrapers, ploughs, idlers, rollers, skirts and other conveyor components.

- Preparing tools, equipment and materials for shutdown and field service work.

- Assisting with the removal and installation of conveyor components.

- Supporting minor fabrication, grinding, cutting and mechanical preparation work.

- General workshop and site-based mechanical duties.

- Conveyor and work area cleaning and housekeeping.

- Assisting with equipment mobilisation and demobilisation for shutdowns.

- Following isolation, permit, Take 5/JHA and site safety requirements.

- Working closely with mechanical fitters, scraper technicians, belt technicians and other members of the maintenance team.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

We are seeking candidates who have:

- Previous experience as a Trade Assistant, Mechanical TA, Fixed Plant TA or similar hands-on role.

- Exposure to conveyors, fixed plant, mining maintenance or shutdown work highly regarded.





- Good mechanical aptitude and confidence using hand and power tools.

- Experience working around conveyor systems and components such as rollers, idlers, scrapers, skirts, pulleys and tracking frames highly regarded.

- Experience assisting mechanical fitters, boilermakers, belt splicers or conveyor technicians.

- Ability to safely perform physically demanding work in mining and industrial environments.

- A strong safety-first approach, including proactive hazard identification and risk management.

- Positive problem-solving skills and a practical, hands-on approach.

- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a maintenance crew.

- Effective communication and teamwork with internal and external customers.

- Professional behaviour when interacting with customers and broader site personnel.

- Commitment to delivering quality workmanship and maintaining high housekeeping standards.

- Flexibility to undertake local work, shutdowns and Pilbara-based field service work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS / TICKETS

Essential:

- Current C-Class Manual Driver’s Licence.

- Construction White Card.

- Ability to obtain or provide a National Police Clearance.





- Ability to pass a full Pre-Employment Medical and Drug & Alcohol Screen.

- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and experience using hand and power tools.

Desirable:

- Working at Heights.

- Confined Spaces.

- Gas Testing Atmospheres.

- High-Risk Work Licences including Forklift (LF), EWP (WP) and Rigging (RB/RI/DG).

- HR, MR or LR Driver’s Licence.

- Load Restraint.

- Basic Rigging or Dogging.

- Previous mine site or shutdown experience.

- Previous conveyor maintenance or fixed plant experience.

- Mechanical, fabrication or engineering-related training or qualifications.
