Senior Planner – SMP Projects

Brisbane-based opportunity with a leading SMP contractor delivering resources projects across Queensland and Australia.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Planner to join a well-established structural, mechanical and piping (SMP) contractor supporting major resources, mining, energy and heavy industrial projects. Based in Brisbane, this role will suit a proactive planning professional who can develop, maintain and manage complex project schedules across engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, commissioning and handover. You will work closely with project managers, construction teams, engineers, commercial teams, subcontractors and client representatives to ensure programmes are realistic, resource-loaded, aligned to project milestones and actively used to support delivery decisions.

Key Responsibilities

· Develop, maintain and control project schedules using Primavera P6 or equivalent scheduling software. · Prepare baseline programmes, detailed construction schedules, look-aheads, recovery schedules and tender programmes.

· Resource-load schedules and support the development of S-curves, progress measurement, earned value reporting and cashflow forecasting.

· Monitor project progress, identify schedule risks, delays and critical path impacts, and recommend practical mitigation strategies.

· Coordinate inputs from project managers, engineers, supervisors, subcontractors, procurement and fabrication teams.

· Support tender planning, contract programme requirements, extension of time analysis and project reporting.

· Facilitate schedule review workshops and ensure planning assumptions, interfaces and constraints are clearly understood.

· Prepare clear programme reports, variance analysis, milestone updates and management dashboards.





· Contribute to continuous improvement across planning, project controls and delivery systems.

About You

· Demonstrated experience in planning, scheduling or project controls within SMP, resources, mining, oil and gas, energy, infrastructure or heavy industrial construction. · Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, sequencing, interfaces and site delivery requirements.

· Advanced capability with Primavera P6; experience with Microsoft Project, Excel and Power BI will be highly regarded.

· Ability to develop resource-loaded schedules and support progress measurement, forecasting and reporting.

· Commercial awareness, including experience supporting claims, variations, EOTs or delay analysis.

· Strong communication skills and confidence working with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary project teams.

· High attention to detail, strong analytical capability and a practical, solutions-focused approach.

· Relevant qualifications in engineering, construction management, project management or a related discipline are desirable.
