About This Opportunity

The UQ Poche Centre for Indigenous Health is seeking a visionary, collaborative and purposeful Director to provide strategic and operational leadership for the Centre’s next phase of impact. The role will help guide a nationally significant Centre dedicated to improving health outcomes and advancing equity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through research excellence, community leadership, cultural integrity and genuine partnership. Working closely with the Centre Executive Committee, Centre Manager, Advisory Board, partner organisations and the broader Poche Indigenous Health Network, the Centre Director will shape the Centre’s strategic agenda, strengthen respectful and reciprocal partnerships, and champion research that translates into tangible policy, practice and community outcomes.

This is an opportunity to create change with a connected and inclusive community of researchers, health leaders, community-controlled organisations, government, industry and partners, while supporting the growth of the next generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers. About You

The University of Queensland considers that to perform this role, it is essential that the person is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld). The position is therefore only open to Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. The successful candidate will be required to provide evidence to confirm that they are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. We are seeking an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander leader with a PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant field, and recognised authority in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, research or a closely related area.

You will bring demonstrated experience delivering strategic outcomes, influencing systems change, and building partnerships grounded in self-determination, equity,



cultural integrity and community leadership. You will be a confident and empathetic communicator with the ability to work across diverse stakeholders, including communities, health providers, researchers, policy leaders and partner organisations. You will bring strong organisational leadership, a commitment to mentoring and workforce development, and a clear ambition to support transformative, community-informed research that improves health and wellbeing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
