Principal Engineer – Power Systems Analysis and Modelling

Australia (Remote Working / Work from Home)

Full-Time

About Bespoke Energy: At Bespoke Energy, we are a specialist power systems engineering consultancy focused on solving complex grid integration challenges. We work closely with developers, network service providers, OEMs, market bodies and other industry participants to deliver high-quality, technically rigorous solutions that enable the energy transition.

Our work spans grid connections, renewable generation and storage integration, system strength and network planning, RMS and EMT model development and analysis, power system event investigations, regulatory developments, and technical training for industry across Australia and internationally.

Our portfolio spans four Australian power systems, as well as projects across Europe, North America, and the Middle East, giving our engineers exposure to a broad range of network conditions, technologies, regulatory environments, and emerging grid challenges.

The Prospect: We are seeking a Principal Engineer to join our growing team and play a key leadership role in delivering complex projects with meaningful technical and practical outcomes. This is an opportunity for a technically strong and commercially aware engineer who enjoys solving challenging problems and contributing to the development of electricity networks in Australia and internationally.

This is a senior technical role for an engineer who can own complex problems, provide technical leadership across projects, and engage confidently with clients and industry stakeholders.

You will work across Australian and international projects, with opportunities to tackle different power systems, technologies and connection frameworks rather than being confined to a single market or project type.

About You:

You are a highly capable and motivated engineer who combines strong technical expertise in power systems analysis and grid connection with sound judgement, initiative, and ownership.

You enjoy understanding why a power system behaves the way it does, rather than simply running a study and producing a report.

You can manage projects end-to-end independently or work alongside other engineers to deliver complex, multi-faceted projects.

What We’re Looking For:

- Typically 8+ years of relevant power systems engineering experience, although depth and quality of experience are more important than an exact number of years.
- Strong experience in power system analysis, grid connections or network studies.
- Practical experience in PSS®E and/or PSCAD, including dynamic studies.
- A solid understanding of generator and inverter-based resource behaviour, modelling and grid performance.
- Experience working with clients and industry stakeholders, with the confidence to communicate technical issues clearly and develop practical solutions.
- The ability to take a complex or unfamiliar problem, determine an appropriate approach and carry it through to a technically sound outcome.
- Experience in any of the following would be highly regarded: generator performance standards and connection processes; system strength and stability assessments; power quality studies; transmission or REZ planning; wide-area EMT modelling; event analysis; or working across different power systems and regulatory environments. You do not need to have worked across every type of study or market listed in this advertisement.

Personal Attributes:

- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills

- Demonstrated initiative and ownership in delivering complex work
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on time-bound projects
- Clear and confident communicator with strong stakeholder engagement skills
- Able to challenge assumptions and make sound technical decisions rather than relying solely on established processes.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a similar area
- Australian Permanent Resident or Citizen
- Applicants must be willing to undergo and successfully pass a National Police Check as a condition of employment.
- Able to work within the security and information-management requirements applicable to critical infrastructure projects, including appropriate IT and data-handling practices.

Why Join Bespoke Energy:

- Work on challenging power system and grid transformation projects
- Be part of a highly skilled, agile, and technically focused team
- Gain exposure to different power systems, network conditions and regulatory environments.
- Work across generator connections, large-scale energy storage, transmission development, system strength, RMS and EMT model development and analysis, and network planning.
- Solve problems that often require new thinking rather than simply repeating established study processes.
- Work directly with experienced engineers, clients and senior decision-makers without unnecessary organisational layers.
- Have meaningful technical ownership and influence over how projects are approached.
- Flexible working arrangements and a supportive, professional environment.
- A culture that values technical quality, initiative, expertise and continuous development.

If you are an experienced power systems engineer who wants greater technical variety, meaningful responsibility and the opportunity to work on challenging power system problems, we’d love to hear from you.
