About University College
University College (UC) is a leading residential college providing academic and wellbeing support for its students in a friendly, relaxed and supportive community. Located in Parkville, UC is home to around 350 students studying at the University of Melbourne and other nearby tertiary institutions. The College features impressive modern facilities including a well-established Library with seating for 55 users in a welcoming, comfortable space conducive to student study.
About the Role
Following the retirement of our longstanding Librarian, this is a rare and rewarding opportunity to work with our dedicated team and make a contribution to this well respected College.
Reporting to the Dean of Studies / Deputy Head of College, the Librarian manages daily operations of the College Library and delivers high quality information services that support student learning and academic achievement.
The role provides the chance for a proactive, organised and enthusiastic person to:
Draw on extensive librarian experience of preferably 5+ years, ideally within the education sector
Utilise knowledge transfer skills to strengthen students’ reference, research and sourcing abilities.
Efficiently manage library operations including budgeting, stocktakes, the LMS (Liberty) and database (Synergetic)
Manage and develop collections, select and purchase academic and recreational resources
Monitor library performance,
drive continuous improvement and promote library services
Stay abreast of advances in library pedagogy, learning trends and emerging technologies
Represent UC at college librarian network meetings and ensure services complement those of the University of Melbourne
Lead and support 2-3 part time student library assistants as direct reports
About You
With a relevant degree and ALIA accreditation (or eligible) you have a passion for learning services and supporting young adults learning needs. You bring outstanding customer service, communication and interpersonal skills enabling you to build respectful, collaborative working relationships with students, tutors and colleagues.
Hours
This is a permanent part time position requiring onsite attendance for approximately 104 days per year. Working an average of 2-3 days per week (preferably including Tuesdays and Thursdays) during semester, the role requires some flexibility to work more or less days per week during peak and quieter periods. No work is required during semester breaks from late Jun - late Jul, and mid Dec - early Feb.
University College offers long term stability, an excellent salary + super, daily lunch provided in the Dining Hall plus onsite car parking. The College also closes between Christmas and New Year.
Applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of permanent work visas and the successful candidate will be required to obtain a Police Check and Working with Children check (Employee) prior to commencement.
