CLIENT The Australian Centre for Disease Control (Australian CDC) is a national public health agency within the Australian Government’s Health, Disability and Ageing portfolio, supporting Australia’s prevention, preparedness, surveillance and response to public health threats.
This role sits within the Antimicrobial Resistance and Foodborne Disease Section, supporting national surveillance of antimicrobial use and resistance.

THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking an experienced Program Manager to lead national antimicrobial resistance surveillance programs.
Reporting to the Director, you will take ownership of program delivery and provide strategic and operational leadership across planning, budgets, governance, contracts, stakeholders, systems and data.
This is an EL1-equivalent / Level 2 Skilled Contractor opportunity based in Woden, ACT, through to 30th June 2028, with a possible 12-month extension.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the management and strategic oversight of antimicrobial resistance surveillance programs.
- Manage program planning, priorities, budgets, risks and reporting.
- Manage relationships with laboratories, stakeholders and external service providers.
- Oversee contracts, systems, data collection, data quality and governance.
- Provide strategic advice on emerging issues and program priorities.
- Lead reports, briefs, publications, dashboards and other program outputs.
- Manage program committees and governance activities.
- Lead and supervise team members and contractors.
SELECTION CRITERIA
- Demonstrated experience in program management,
including managing complex programs and competing priorities.
- Strong financial management experience, including program budgets and financial oversight.
- Demonstrated strategic planning capability and the ability to translate objectives into practical program outcomes.
- Highly developed stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Ability to quickly learn and operate effectively within a complex public health environment. Qualifications or experience in science or public health will be highly regarded but are not essential.
- Baseline security clearance (minimum) is required prior to commencement.
