About usNatuRace organises trail running events in South East Queensland. Our small, tight-knit team delivers high-quality events in some of the best natural environments in SEQ. We're also developing our own technology to streamline processes for the team and improve the experience for our customers.

About the roleWe are looking for a race director who can reliably and cost-effectively deliver 11+ fun and safe trail running events per year, with hundreds of participants per event. You may also be part of a bigger team delivering our flagship event, a multi-day ultra trail running event with thousands of participants. We're expecting to add new events to our portfolio and filling this role is critical to enabling further growth.

The race director is taking care of all activities that require physical presence at or knowledge of certain locations. You may delegate work to others (people, businesses) as long as expenses stay within the budget.

About your responsibilities

- Before an event
- Printing, laminating, counting, sorting signs
- Managing bibs (adding RFID chips, counting, sorting)
- Checking in with land managers and other stakeholders
- Checking in with the team and providers (all roles filled? all actions planned?)
- Collecting keys
- Checking conditions (fires, weather, tracks, etc) and making adjustments where required (cancel/postpone only if unsafe/impossible to stick to the planned date)
- Filling water containers, buying fuel, collecting prizes, printing registration lists, charging batteries, updating the race director laptop (used for timing, etc) and otherwise making sure that everything is ready for an event
- Loading event vehicles (trailer, ute, rented vehicles)
- Course marking
- Transporting the event gear to the event precinct
- Event day
- Setting up the staging area, parking and other locations of the event precinct
- Managing the event crew (NatuRace team, volunteers, third-party providers)
- Managing participants and spectators
- Executing tasks that are not done by others (e.g. operating the timing system, briefings, presentations)
- Keeping an event log
- Solving problems, handling emergencies




- Packing up and leaving the event precinct clean and locked-up
- After an event
- Cleaning, tidying up, repairing, returning all event gear
- Returning keys
- Other activities directly related to delivering an event, especially if there is any dependency on physical locations

About what you WON'T do
- Applying for permits
- Hiring medical services, MC, photographers and other providers
- Ordering bibs, course marking materials, equipment, toilets, etc
- Producing signs and other materials (with some exceptions - especially for laminated signs)
- Managing online registrations, finances, etc
- Other administrative tasks

About flexibilityThe race director (RD) is responsible for the successful delivery of events. However, what exactly the race director executes themselves vs delegates to others depends on a range of factors:
- RD's availability and preferences for working hours
- RD's skills and experience
- Availability of others on the NatuRace team
- Volunteers
- Event budget
- State of NatuRace systems (technology)
- Other

Depending on the needs, preferences and expertise of the RD, they may also take on additional responsibilities that are listed under "what you won't do" above (or are not mentioned here at all). There is also a great deal of flexibility when it comes to when, where and how you do things. What matters is that everything gets done reliably, at a high level of quality, cost-effectively and on time.
