Senior Registered Migration Agent
Remote | Australia-based | Four-day work week available after probation
About Freedom Migration
Freedom Migration is a boutique migration practice helping Australian families and businesses navigate the migration process with confidence. Our principal areas of practice are:
- Partner and family visas, including complex matters such as health waivers, serial sponsorships and ART matters; and
- Employer-sponsored visas for a portfolio of established business clients.
We are a small, experienced and highly efficient remote team. Our business is structured, systems-driven and committed to using technology and innovation to improve the quality of our work, our efficiency and the experience of our clients. We believe excellent work should not require routinely working late. Our culture is straightforward: work hard, take ownership, get the job done properly and clock off at a reasonable time. Work-life balance is genuinely important to us.
Freedom Migration is a practice of Registered Migration Agents and is not an incorporated legal practice.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced, well-rounded Registered Migration Agent who is comfortable providing strategic advice, conducting consultations and managing casework. This is not a role focused solely on processing applications. You will assess clients’ circumstances, identify appropriate visa pathways, provide clear and strategically sound advice, and manage matters from initial assessment through to visa outcome.
Your responsibilities will include
- Conducting client consultations and strategic visa-planning sessions;
- Assessing eligibility, risks and alternative migration pathways;
- Drafting tailored post-consultation letters of advice;
- Building trust with prospective clients and guiding suitable clients from initial enquiry through to engagement;
- Managing partner and employer-sponsored visa matters from beginning to end;
- Preparing and lodging accurate, decision-ready applications;
- Managing complex matters requiring careful strategy, evidence and legal research;
- Maintaining transparent, responsive and professional client communication;
- Managing deadlines, client records and caseload priorities independently;
- Working collaboratively with our administrative, migration support and senior RMA team members;
- Keeping your professional knowledge current and actively pursuing relevant CPD and training opportunities; and
- Contributing ideas that improve our systems, efficiency and client experience.
About You
This role will suit an experienced RMA who enjoys variety and wants to remain involved in both advisory work and substantive case preparation. To be considered, you will need:
- Current OMARA registration;
- At least five years’ experience as a Registered Migration Agent;
- Strong experience in employer-sponsored migration;
- A sound working knowledge of partner visas, although you do not need to be a partner-visa specialist;
- Strong consultation and strategic advisory skills;
- Experience independently managing matters from initial assessment through to lodgement and outcome;
- The ability to identify legal and evidentiary risks rather than simply process documentation;
- Excellent written communication and the ability to prepare clear, tailored advice;
- Strong organisational skills and confidence managing competing priorities and deadlines;
- A high level of accuracy, professional judgment and accountability;
- The initiative to research unfamiliar or complex issues thoroughly;
- Confidence working remotely and managing your day without close supervision;
- A genuine commitment to maintaining and developing your professional knowledge;
- A proactive approach to CPD, training and opportunities to strengthen your technical and advisory skills;
- An interest in technology, systems and finding more efficient ways to deliver excellent work; and
- The ability to work remotely from within Australia.
You do not need to be an expert across every area of partner migration. Freedom Migration has a highly experienced partner-visa team available to collaborate with you and provide support where required. However, you must bring sound foundational knowledge, professional curiosity and a willingness to continue developing your skills.
You will thrive at Freedom Migration if you take ownership, follow through and care deeply about the standard of your work. You should enjoy contributing to a close-knit team while also being capable of working independently.
This role is unlikely to suit someone who wants to work only in consultations or only in case processing. We are seeking an agent who can confidently move between strategic advice, client engagement and detailed casework.
What We Offer
- A genuinely remote role that allows you to work from home;
- The opportunity to transition to a four-day working week, Monday to Thursday, after successfully completing probation and meeting the requirements of the role;
- A workplace that actively protects work-life balance and does not treat routine overtime as a measure of commitment;
- Structured systems, clear expectations and strong administrative support;
- Access to an experienced team for collaboration, technical discussion and support;
- Opportunities to develop your skills across partner and employer-sponsored migration;
- Interesting and complex migration matters;
- Meaningful, ethical work with clients whose cases we genuinely believe we can assist;
- A team that values initiative, accountability and practical ideas; and
- The opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the continued growth and development of a boutique migration practice.
Occasional calls outside standard Australian business hours may be required to accommodate overseas clients. These are the exception rather than an everyday expectation.
How to Apply
Please submit your résumé and a brief cover letter telling us:
- What interests you about this opportunity with Freedom Migration;
- What you are looking for in your next role; and
- What helps you do your best work as part of a small, structured remote team.
We are not looking for a formal or lengthy cover letter. We would simply like to understand what has drawn you to the role and whether it may be the right fit for both of us. Current OMARA registration and at least five years’ experience as a Registered Migration Agent are essential. Applications that do not meet these requirements will not be considered.
Freedom Migration is not an incorporated legal practice and therefore cannot employ solicitors in this role.
