About the role

Provide accountable registered nursing care and shift-level clinical leadership. The RN on Duty retains day-to-day clinical decisions, delegation, escalation, handover and resident-care accountability while working constructively with the Clinical Governance Advisor's independent assurance function.

Key responsibilities

- Complete comprehensive and change-triggered assessment, care planning, clinical interventions and evaluation in partnership with the resident and chosen supporters
- Recognise and respond to deterioration, pain, infection, falls, wounds, nutrition, swallowing, behaviour, palliative and other clinical risks; arrange timely medical, pharmacy, allied-health, hospital or emergency review
- Maintain clear goals, escalation thresholds and current care instructions in Acredia, including after admission, transfer, hospital return, incident or significant change
- Act as the rostered point of clinical accountability, prioritise resident needs, coordinate handover, allocate and reprioritise care and remain available for escalation throughout the shift
- Delegate lawfully according to resident need, task complexity, worker competence and available supervision; state limits and escalation triggers and evaluate the outcome
- Escalate unsafe staffing, skill mix, fatigue, supervision gaps, missed care or inability to meet resident needs to the CEO and activate contingency arrangements
- Manage medicines, high-risk medicines, Schedule 8 controls, PRN use, allergies, reconciliation, incidents and pharmacy communication in accordance with current NSW law and Koonambil policy
- Undertake and supervise clinical procedures within professional scope and competence, ensuring consent, infection control, monitoring and follow-up
- Communicate clearly with residents, supporters, prescribers,



pharmacy and external services; use read-back and structured handover where safety depends on accurate information
- Lead surveillance, standard and transmission-based precautions, outbreak recognition and response, vaccination and antimicrobial-stewardship controls

About you

- Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA and compliance with NMBA registration standards, professional standards and codes
- Demonstrated residential aged-care clinical assessment, care planning, deterioration management, medicines management and documentation capability
- Ability to lead a shift independently, delegate and supervise safely, communicate with medical practitioners, pharmacy, families and emergency services, and make timely clinical decisions
- Robust knowledge of the Aged Care Act 2024, strengthened Quality Standards, SIRS, restrictive practices, 24/7 RN, care minutes and AN-ACC requirements
- Digital competence sufficient for accurate real-time use of Acredia and other approved clinical systems
- Required aged-care worker screening and lawful right to work in Australia
- Respectful, calm and person-centred, with sound professional boundaries
- Accountable, honest and willing to speak up, learn and act on feedback
- Reliable teamwork, time management, adaptability and practical problem solving
