The Opportunity An established research-focused organisation is seeking a Research Data Advisor to join its Research Data Services function. This position plays a key role in supporting researchers and stakeholders throughout the research data lifecycle, ensuring best-practice management, storage, governance and sharing of research data assets.

Working within a collaborative and nationally distributed team, you will provide specialist advice on research data management, support the adoption of data management platforms and services, and contribute to the ongoing development of scalable and user-focused data solutions.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide support and guidance on research data management practices across the research lifecycle.
- Assist researchers with planning, storing, describing, archiving and sharing datasets, metadata and related research outputs.
- Respond to user enquiries and manage support requests through established service management processes.
- Support data archiving, classification, retention and disposal activities in line with organisational policies and governance requirements.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify opportunities to improve research data management capabilities and drive process efficiencies.
- Gather user requirements and contribute to product enhancement initiatives, including backlog management, user stories,



testing and change activities.
- Develop and deliver training, workshops, documentation and educational resources to improve research data management capabilities across the organisation.
- Promote best-practice approaches to data governance, compliance, security and information management.

Skills & Experience To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

- Experience in research data management, data governance or information management.
- Strong understanding of research data lifecycles and associated governance requirements.
- Knowledge of data classification, sensitive data handling, information security, retention and disposal frameworks.
- Experience supporting enterprise platforms and data management tools.
- Exposure to service management platforms such as Jira, ServiceNow or similar ticketing systems.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver training and support to diverse audiences.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

Desirable Experience

- Experience working with data repositories, archives or digital preservation platforms.
- Knowledge of research data management planning tools and data cataloguing solutions.
- Experience developing operational processes, procedures and governance frameworks.
- Exposure to information management standards, records management or archival practices.
- Previous experience supporting change initiatives and driving adoption of recent processes or technologies.
