An opportunity exists for an experienced Safety Systems Engineer to play a key role in the design, assurance, and lifecycle support of complex, safety‑critical Defence systems.

This role sits within a broader Systems Engineering function and will see you lead safety engineering activities across design, development, verification, and in‑service phases, while mentoring junior engineers and engaging closely with technical and stakeholder teams.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead system safety programs, plans, processes, and frameworks
- Conduct hazard identification and risk assessments (functional and physical)
- Develop and maintain hazard analyses, safety cases, and safety assessment reports
- Perform safety analysis for design changes and system problem reports
- Define, track, and assure safety requirements, controls, verification, and traceability
- Chair and contribute to system safety working groups and milestone reviews
- Support broader systems engineering activities including requirements mapping, interfaces, and V&V;
- Mentor and provide technical leadership to other safety engineers

About You Degree qualified in Mechanical, Electrical,



Electronic Engineering or related discipline. Solid experience in safety engineering for complex, software‑intensive systems. Demonstrated capability across:
- Hazard and risk analysis
- Safety requirements and architectural design
- Safety verification and validation
- Safety case development
- Working knowledge of contemporary safety standards and best practice (e.g. MIL‑STD‑882)
- Comfortable working within governed, safety‑critical Defence environments
- Exposure to MBSE and engineering toolsets (requirements, document and task management) highly regarded

- Must be eligible for an Australian Defence Security Clearance
