Leaf by Leaf is looking for an entry-level gardener / horticulture trainee to join our small team working across some of Melbourne’s finest residential gardens.
This is not an apprenticeship. It’s a hands‑on, entry-level role designed for someone who genuinely wants to build a career in gardening, horticulture and landscape gardening.
The Opportunity
You’ll be working alongside experienced horticulturists and learning on the job in high‑end residential gardens across Melbourne.
Our work includes gardens designed by some of Australia’s leading landscape designers, giving you the opportunity to learn how beautifully designed gardens are maintained, developed and improved over time.
The role is primarily garden maintenance, with regular involvement in soft landscaping, planting and garden installation work.
You won't be stuck doing the same task every day. As your knowledge and confidence grow, so will your responsibilities.

- Soil and plant nutrition
- Irrigation
- Planting and soft landscaping
- Garden installations
- Maintaining established, high-end residential landscapes
Most importantly, you'll learn how to understand a garden, not simply mow lawns and pull weeds.
Who We’re Looking For
Experience isn't the most important thing for this position. Attitude is.
A Certificate I or II in Horticulture would be highly regarded, but it isn't essential.
We'd also like to hear from people who haven't studied horticulture but have a genuine interest in plants, gardens and landscaping and want the chance to make a career from it.
We're looking for someone who:
- Is genuinely interested in horticulture and gardening
- Wants to learn and develop their skills
- Enjoys working outdoors and being physically active
- Takes pride in their work
- Can communicate well and work as part of a small team
- Is reliable and turns up ready to work
- Has the ability to lift a lawn mower onto a ute by themselves
- Is able to attain a working with children check
- Has an Australian driver's licence
- Has their own reliable transport
The Role
Monday – Friday | 7:30am – 4:00pm
We are based in Briar hill but we maintain gardens in all areas of Melbourne from bayside to north east suburbs giving us a wide range of garden styles all ranging in different sizes from balcony's to over 25acre properties
Our work takes us across Melbourne, maintaining a diverse range of high-quality residential gardens.
You will need your own transport when starting with us. Following a successful probation period, a work vehicle will be provided to the right candidate.
