The Essential Services Commission is Victoria's independent economic regulator of essential services supplied by a range of industries. The commission's functions include:

- making regulatory decisions with respect to prescribed industries (including price determinations, licensing, customer protection and access disputes).
- undertaking reviews and providing advice to Ministers on a range of economic and regulatory matters.
- administering the Victorian Energy Upgrades program.

About the roles

The Investigator plays an key role in protecting Victorian energy consumers by investigating potential regulatory breaches and supporting the commission's enforcement activities. Working within the Enforcement team, you will conduct investigations, gather and assess evidence and contribute to regulatory decisions that promote compliance and improve outcomes across the energy sector.

This role offers the opportunity to build your investigative expertise in a regulatory environment where your work has a direct impact. You will work closely with legal and regulatory stakeholders to deliver high-quality investigations, prepare enforcement documentation and contribute to continuous improvement across the team through sharing knowledge and collaboration.

The work location for this position is 570 Bourke Street, Melbourne with hybrid work arrangements available.

Key accountabilities

- Conduct investigations into potential regulatory breaches and gather evidence to support regulatory decisions.
- Analyse complex information and prepare high-quality investigation reports, enforcement documentation and legal briefs.
- Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including legal representatives, industry participants and external providers.
- Contribute to the development of enforcement practices, policies and procedures, while sharing knowledge and insights across the team.
- Support the delivery of enforcement activities by identifying trends, providing recommendations and contributing to continuous improvement.
