About the Role:

Recovery PathwaysEngagement Worker – Recovery Pathways plays an important role in supporting clients Prior & during residential rehabilitation and as they transition back into community. The position provides practical assistance, advocacy, and connection to essential services that strengthen recovery and promote long term wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

Client Engagement & Support

- Assist clients with court appointments, housing, employment, education, and health appointments, supporting their reintegration and long-term recovery.
- Support clients to reconnect with family, community, and social networks.
- Maintain regular client contact pre during & post program to monitor wellbeing, recovery progress, and emerging needs.
- Provide follow-up support and adjust plans as necessary to meet client goals.
- Liaise with AOD services, health providers, and referral agencies to ensure a coordinated approach.
- Support client transport as needed
- Engage with client in prison to determines suitability for recovery pathways

Coordination & Advocacy





- Work under the supervision of the Recovery Pathways Program manager and in collaboration with the Recovery Pathways Coordinator to deliver advocacy and follow-up care.
- Support clients to navigate external systems and advocate on their behalf with courts, landlords, employers, and community agencies.
- Assist with developing and implementing individualised transition plans, addressing practical recovery needs such as housing, employment, and wellbeing supports.
- Coordinate community follow-up and provide regular feedback to residential teams to close the service loop.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records, progress notes, and outcome data.

Cultural & Community Connection

- Support clients to reconnect with family, culture, and community, including participation in Aboriginal healing programs, yarning circles, and cultural events.
- Encourage clients to attend community and cultural activities, men’s/women’s groups, or wellness events.
- Collaborate with Elders, Cultural Mentors, and local Aboriginal organisations to ensure culturally safe support pathways.
- Promote identity, belonging, and connection to Country as core aspects of sustainable recovery.

Quality, Safety & Continuous Improvement

- Participate in Recovery Pathways team meetings, supervision, and reflective practice sessions.
- Contribute to Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI)



by providing feedback on service gaps, client outcomes, and best practice ideas.
- Support implementation of Ngwala’s Quality, Safety and Governance Framework and the Recovery Pathways Model of Care.
- Follow Ngwala’s Health, Safety and Wellbeing procedures and promote secure, respectful practice.

Skills & Experience:

- Demonstrated experience supporting Aboriginal people and/or individuals affected by alcohol and other drug use.
- Strong advocacy skills and ability to liaise effectively with courts, housing providers, and social service agencies.
- Understanding of the social and cultural factors influencing Aboriginal recovery and reintegration.
- Excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to engage and motivate clients in community and outreach settings.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Competent in Microsoft Office and client information systems.
- Compassion, professionalism, and a commitment to learning and continuous improvement.
- Desirable: Qualification in Alcohol & Other Drugs, Social or Community Services, or equivalent experience.

Mandatory Requirements:

- National Police Certificate (not older than 3 months)
- Victorian Employment Working with Children Check
