Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced public policy professional to join our Policy team. This role will work closely with the Head of Policy to develop policy, provide advice and undertake activities to advance the interests of the NSW clubs sector.
The successful candidate will be a proactive policy professional who can analyse complex issues, build strong stakeholder relationships, and deliver practical advice and advocacy that advances the interests of clubs. They will be a clear communicator, capable of turning policy and regulatory matters into actionable guidance for members and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyse policy, legislative, regulatory and political developments affecting the club industry, identifying emerging risks and opportunities.
- Conduct research and prepare high-quality briefing notes, reports, board papers, policy advice and recommendations for internal stakeholders.
- Develop advocacy materials including submissions, correspondence, policy papers and position statements to support industry engagement with government and regulators.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with government agencies, elected representatives, industry bodies and other key external stakeholders.
- Represent ClubsNSW and Clubs Australia at meetings, events and industry forums, and support clubs in their dealings with regulators and government.
- Develop member communications and practical guidance materials on compliance, regulatory and public policy issues.
- Provide policy, regulatory and governance advice to member clubs,
supporting them to navigate compliance and operational issues.
- Support strategic projects, stakeholder initiatives and industry campaigns, including the use of data and research to strengthen advocacy outcomes.
About You
- Strong understanding of public policy and the legislative process.
- Demonstrated experience in interpreting and recommending amendments to government bills, acts, regulations and other legislative instruments.
- Strong research and analytical skills with the ability to translate insights into actionable strategies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, compelling reports and member communications.
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interest in applying public policy skills in an industry, member-based or similar organisational context.
Qualification and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in Public Policy, Political Science, Law, Economics, or related field or relevant discipline.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a policy or related role.
Highly Regarded
- Experience in the club or hospitality sector.
- Experience with a membership-based organisation.
- Experience with government or a regulator.
