About OrbitRemit
OrbitRemit is an international money transfer business moving funds across New Zealand and Australia, with the ambition to keep growing beyond. We hold an Australian Financial Services Licence and are registered with AUSTRAC/DIA in both markets. Risk and compliance is treated as core to how the business runs, not as a back office function. Our programme is mature, resourced, independently reviewed and actively engaged with our regulators.
About the role
This is a senior, hands on role with a broad remit. AFSL compliance is the centre of it: you will own it in practice and drive its ongoing uplift. Around that, you will maintain and improve our risk management framework, support Board and Executive reporting, and work with the business to scope the compliance requirements for current products and new jurisdictions.
You will report to the Chief Risk Officer and work alongside the Head of AML/CTF Compliance. Financial crime risk assessment sits with that role, not this one, so you can concentrate on licensing, conduct, privacy, cyber and product risk. It suits someone who is comfortable owning a wide brief in a small, high performing team and who gives practical, commercially grounded advice. This role is open to Full time or Part time candidates.
What you will do
- Own and uplift AFSL compliance, including licence conditions, the compliance manual, breach and reportable situations processes, and product governance obligations.
- Maintain and improve the risk management framework, risk registers and supporting documentation.
- Prepare and support Board, Risk and Compliance Committee, and Executive reporting.
- Apply consumer protection obligations to products, disclosures and conduct.
- Lead privacy compliance across both markets, including privacy impact assessments for recent products, and support the Privacy Officer function.
- Partner with the technology team on cyber and operational resilience risk, including business continuity and third party risk.
- Scope the compliance regime for new products and new jurisdictions, and give the business clear advice on what is required and what it will take.
- Track regulatory change and reform, and recommend the adjustments needed to stay compliant.
- Run compliance monitoring and assurance activities, and track remediation through to completion.
- Keep policies current as products and obligations change.
- Provide practical, day to day compliance advice to teams across the business.
- Support our Responsible Managers so that RM obligations are well managed and evidenced.
- Build systems and processes that make compliance efficient and defensible, including sensible use of technology and AI tooling.
What you will not do
Financial crime risk assessment, transaction monitoring, and suspicious matter and suspicious activity reporting sit with the Head of AML/CTF Compliance and the financial crime operations team. An understanding of financial crime and AUSTRAC engagement is useful context for this role,
but it is not a requirement.
About you
- At least five years of risk and compliance experience in financial services (ideally in a fintech or similar).
- Experience in an AFSL context with a strong working knowledge of AFSL compliance obligations. This is the core requirement.
- A legal background is preferred.
- Experience maintaining or uplifting a risk management framework.
- A sound understanding of consumer protection obligations and a working understanding of privacy compliance in Australia, Recent Zealand or both.
- Exposure to cyber and operational resilience risk is welcome. If you have not done it before, we will support you to pick it up.
- A self starter who can own a broad remit and work effectively in a small team without a lot of infrastructure around you.
- Sound judgement on proportionate, commercially grounded risk responses. You can tell the difference between a real risk and a theoretical one.
- A clear communicator who can move between operational detail and Board level reporting.
- A digital mindset, comfortable with technology tools and open to AI adoption.
- A relevant tertiary qualification.
Why OrbitRemit
- A well established, reputable business with a strong track record across two markets and an active growth agenda.
- A compliance function that is taken seriously, with real scope to shape how the business manages risk.
- Genuine breadth. Licensing, conduct, privacy, cyber and new market entry, rather than one narrow slice.
- A small team of experienced, dedicated people with real tenure.
- Hybrid and adaptable working
- A competitive remuneration package.
